Gryphon Reviews

Hey guys

I am looking into getting a Gryphon and would like to know what some of your think about them to date.
I have a 2003 Screw FX-4, 5.4, Cat back exhaust, soon to get CAI

I know I can read about them all day long and it sounds great but I would like to hear reviews from real people about how they like it.

-What are your Pros and Cons?

-Can it change shift points, tire/wheel sand gear sizes like a Super chip?

-What kind of real proformance can it add while running 87 octane?

Thanks guys. Look foward to hearing from you

Added about 30 hp with greatly improved shifting and even more improved downshifting. I run an 87 Perfomance tune almost exclusively altho i have a 93 Performance tune as well.

Review the threads in this forum, you will learn a lot.

On a 5.4 2V probably 20hp.
Depends on your mods.

And, I can't think of any "cons" except that the unit is an inviting item to a thief when you park your truck in an unsecured location. You can easily remove it though to get rid of THAT temptation.

I've only discovered one con since I've had mine. I'm trying to sell my truck right now. When I had it at a car dealer to see what they'd give me on a trade-in, their buyer took it for a test drive and discounted their offer by $1,000 because he was convinced there was something wrong with the transmission. He said it shifted too hard. He said flushing the fluid might help (even though I had just showed him the receipt from the transmission flush I had just had done), but it might also need to be replaced. In the end, I wasn't much impressed with that dealer and wouldn't have sold my truck to them, even if they did offer me a good price, but the buyer didn't really know what he was talking about and started making stuff up when I called him out on it.

You will absolutely love a gryphon from PHP!

Have you visited the PHP forum? If not I would highly recommend it, lots of great info and helpful people talking PHP tunes!

I was running the 91 perf tune and just switched to the 87 perf tune to try it out; honestly it feels just as good as the 91 tune. I was happily surprised with the 87 perf. tune, I thought it would be much tamer.

You can adjust the shift points, tires sizes, gears, etc with the gryphon. I'm currently running a "custom" version of PHP's custom tune with adjusted std. shift points and TC lock/unlock points to try and eliminate the drone of the S&B.

I have had an edge in the dash pod for 4 years now with no troubles; the truck has had several break in attempts, but I can't say weather they where after the edge or other things. I was just glad none of them ever got in! For the most part when its not lit up you have to be looking to see it (assuming your windows are tinted).

You can't go wrong with PHP tunes at all! The only real drawback is getting in touch with them they are sooo busy. Thankfully the forum has so many knowledgeable people to fill in when Bill and Corey cannot be on everyday. I have only called them when ordering to confirm they got my overnight package; I had to call twice and got through the third time (over the period of one day). That's not too bad at all if you ask me.

IS the Gryphon any diff for the 03 to the 04-08?
I was also looking at the Phoenix chip.

Which one is better? I see that some of the goodies can not be used on the 03.
Like oil temp, trans temp ect.
I know it helps on power, but i do not see where it says it will change tire and gear sizes? I am about to install in 6in lift and will install .411 gears and need to be sure whatever i get i can change the settings

thanks

Yes, the unit for an 03 is different from the 04-up unit as far as the programming, but it looks the same. Have no knowlwdge of the Phoenix chip, never seen it mentioned on here. You want a tuner, not a chip, so you CAN change gears and tire size. The Gryphon does that.

Can you eliminate stability control on a 2010 with one of these?
