Whats the deal with php
I come from a small business family. You try it and then come back and see how it is.
My dad recently went to work for the state doing the same thing (signs, truck lettering, ect)
Not being a jerk, but being serious. It ain't easy man. A small business that deals around the world... they do a heck of a job.

Exactly, but you have to remember small business = more stress on what they have in terms of operation. There products are well received, so IMO it is worth the wait. Hopefully my Gryphon will be here this week
For what its worth I e-mailed Corey and got a reply later the same day.
I bought a edge locally after looking around on the net and like you wanted to deal with a real person..or at least a voice...but then Corey called me back an hour after I bought it.After talking to her I returned the edge and bought a Gryphon..2-3 days later it was in my hands. Then they went to SEMA.
Then I TALKED to Bill when they got back from SEMA..Corey was ill at the time.. and I ordered my custom tune which came with the gryphon for the same price as a edge.We talked for about 15 minutes about performance stuff in general after I told him what I do for a living and my tech backround...nice guy....Then just the other day I E-mailed Corey to check on the progress my tune. She e-mailed me back and told me she and the kids have been sick with the flu..this is probably why you've had a hard time reaching them..anyway she answered my e-mail and told me Bill was swamped with tunes but mine should be in the next batch of gas tunes..2 days later..yesterday..I received it.Total time was about a month..cant remember when SEMA was but like I said I got it yesterday.
Bottom line..I think you can trust them to not take your unit or looses it.But I certainly understand not wanting to do anything until you talk to them.
Try e-mailing them and tell them exactly what you said here aboout your concerns.I'm sure they'll get back to you.

well today i actually got through on the phone lines. i spoke with bills wife and she toldme i should wait till after the hollidays being they will be closed at the end of the month. so you actually got your grypon and then they send you the custom tunes?
Yes. When you buy the Gryphon from them they send it to you with the canned tunes (slightly tweaked by Bill) to run while you wait on the custom tunes. On the other hand if you send an Edge in to get upgraded to a Gryphon they keep your unit while they write the tunes.
I am sure their competitors also have a long wait so it is up to you which direction to take. I bought a Gryphon from them about 8 months ago and spoke to both Corey and Bill.. They are nice Christian folks who practice the "customer centric model." They will take care of you just be patient.
Have a nice day.
Have a nice day.
Bill used to work for Edge as one of their top tuners/software engineers. I think I remember reading that he helped design the Edge. When he left he got permission to do custom tuning with it, and as far as I know is that only tuner with that privilege.
Due to legal reasons, the Edge can not be custom tuned. This is so the Edge can keep it's CARB certification that makes it legal in California. That is why PHP converts it to the Gryphon, and then can custom tune it. They have that arrangement worked out with Edge. No one else custom tunes the hardware known as the Edge or the Gryphon. PHP buys their hardware from Edge and labels it as the Gryphon.

A lot of tuners would much rather have you email them. It's not to say that they won't answer questions and talk to you on the phone. I've been told by some tuners that they just flat out won't accept orders over the phone, etc because they've had people tell them they want one thing and than complain that it's not right. So if they have an email or an online order from them than it protects them. I can completely understand. Not to mention that it's hard to talk on the phone when you are dyno'ing cars and creating tunes. Just another point of view.
This may of been mentioned before but keep in mind that a Gryphon IS an EDGE.But its unlocked by PHP to accept custom tunes. You DO NOT have to get a custom tune to gain any performance. It has 3 custom tunes in it and you CAN tweak the caned tunes a little. So dont think that while your waiting for a custom tune you cant use it.And even with a custom tune you can still use the canned tune or return to stock setting and just look at the purdy read outs on the screen.
So the question.. in my opinion is..why pay 399.00 for an EDGE when for the SAME money you can get a GRYPHON? If you dont want a custom tune its the same price and basicly the same as an edge but its black instead of grey. AND if later down the road you change your mind or put on a cold air intake its all ready unlocked.
ALSO.. IF they still have there special going then 1 tune is free.So for again the same price as an edge you get 1 free tune wether you use it or not.
I think of the gryphon like a cell phone..my I-touch is jail broken to accept FREE games and apps. The Gryphon is a jail broken edge..but of course the tunes aren't free.
But check..the sale might still be on.
Actually the sale was/is 30.00 off..but since a tune is 30.00..I think of it as getting 1 tune free.

It took me a little over 2 months to get a custom tune for my gryphon. I look at it as it's frustrating to wait, but well worth it to wait. The mileage saved from not driving my truck for the wait was worth it and the gain in mileage after my custom tune is now priceless......well worth the wait. These two at PHP are very perfessional and dedicated to their customers, now they have a dedicated customer in turn.
i want the custom tune becaue i threw a code with the edge about running lean cuz of my cold air intake and i dont want to put it back to stock because it looks ugly under the hood haha.. but anyways like i said befor i got in touch with them and i'll be sending mine in at the end of the month this thred was only to see if anyone knew another way of getting in touch with them
I know I don't usually get over to this forum as much as I used to, but I did just get a chance to read this thread and have a couple of things to say.
1- To Mike: I'm glad I was able to talk to you about updating your Gryphon, and I gave you some good advice about waiting until after the first of the year so that we won't just be holding onto your programmer when I KNOW that there are so many people ahead of you. We look forward to working with you if you do decide to send it in for upgrading and custom tuning.
2- We used to have an answering machine. We switched to an auto attendant because people would leave messages, and we weren't able to get back to them quickly. We decided that calling and not being able to leave a message (but still hearing the auto attendant so it's not just ringing and ringing) is far less rude than accepting a message and never returning it.
3- Our business traffic is up 400% of what is was this time last year, but there are still only two of us in the office. Even if we had someone come in to answer phones, we would still have to find time to train them about our products and the basic mechanics of diesels and gassers. I've been working with Bill for two years now, and I can answer 99% of the gasser questions and about 60% of the diesel questions. If I can't answer every question after two years of doing this, how can I train someone else while still doing my regular job each day? Could they take messages? Sure. But that would be no different than having an answering machine and having to return all of those calls.
On August 7, I posted an open letter to all of our customers -- past, present, and future -- to explain who we are and what we do. It also explains that there may be a longer wait if you purchase something from us vs. another company (and we're always happy to recommend other companies!) and why that is. We've always been straightforward with everyone so that they know what to expect from us.
4- There are only two ways at this juncture that we could slow things down. One, we could take my sister's advice and raise our prices and simply sell less yet make a larger profit. We really like the fact that our prices are as low as they are, which make our products attainable for most. We make very little on each sale; therefore, we have to sell more to be able to pay our bills. Yes, this means many more hours of work for the both of us, but it's something we're willing to do. Two, we could limit the number of units we sell each month to, say, 25 programmers and 25 chips. When we reach the limit, customers would have to wait for the next month. This isn't feasible because we'd still have to raise our prices if we were only selling that quantity and also... it's ludicrous.
5- Bill and I discuss the future of PHP all the time, and there are some plans for expansion. As it was pointed out, however... training someone to do what Bill does is just not a possibility at this point. That, and we still haven't figured out how to get 20 years of knowledge into someone else's brain in a timely manner. Our son Wil is 10. I told Billy the other day that when he's 12, it's time to start training him.
6- Finally, to everyone else who took the time to post in this thread, I just want to say thank you. There were so many positive things mentioned, and it's nice to know that most people really do understand us, our business, and our ethics.
Happy holidays!
