As the air intake tube increases the more tendencies to run lean can happen. Then throw in a generic tune on top of it that originally mapped for a stock intake and the lean condition is possible. If you could find a cai that would allow the same air and flow as a stock intake then it wouldn't be an issue. Also the bigger the intake tube the more the tendency to run lean increases. Just from going from 3" to 3.5" is a big jump. Its not really how much the tb can draw in, its what air is moving by the maf and how the pcm recognizes it.
A cai might be fine by itself on 06-08 but throw a generic tune on it then who knows?
Then why are customers of php who have a cai on 04-08 trucks told to run level 2 tow because it the tune runs richer but just don't hot rod it to much?

4wd150 also has a 2 valve truck, the 2 valve trucks are not as prone to running lean like the 3 valve ford motors are

yetti96 : am not too sure , but over here we use names for fuel types , for example, the regular fuel that is normal for all economy/normal compression cars is called "special 98" , the other type is meant for engines which has higher compression (ex:Range Rover Sport,Mini Cooper S, Sport Civic typeR etc) and is called "Super 95" which is the highest... < i also use it for my Quad bike which runs on 12:2:1 ... also we have Diesel but it's obvious

now when i searched around , i came into this

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...s-mon-etc.html

so I guess our fuel octane = US Octane - 4 (95 in Dubai is 91 in US)

openclasspro#11 : who do you mean by "his"? me or the chevy?

tarajerame : thanks for the detailed reply, never knew VMP has a Drag tune , guessing it's custom tune...

Subtracting 4 to get the US equivalent DOES get you pretty close if your gas is RON (Research Octane Number) rated.

The Xcal3 does not have canned tunes.

comes loaded with canned tunes- either you are emailed custom tunes or you wait till your tuner writes tunes for you, loads em on xcal 3, then ships to you...

The US and Canada use both RON (Research Octane Number) + MON (Motor Octane Number) divided by 2 to establish the Octane rating of gasoline. Dubai uses only RON so make sure you tell your tuner when you purchase your product.

when you get your tuner when you choose your 3 tunes tell 'em you want one to bea drag race specific tune for maximum performance when you want it then you'll have the other 2 for street and towing

Jean Marc, are you sure ALL of Canada uses (R + M)/2? I could swear I remember talking to a Canadian who was filling with RON graded fuel not too long ago.

But then, maybe it's my rapidly fading brain cells that are causing me confusion!
