PHP Gryphon vs. VMP xcal 3
Baught a hypertech for really cheap and i dont like it. I was told not to but i figured it was worth the price... it may have been but its not what i want and now i feel like an
So now im just going to suck it up and get some good custom tunes. But which one do yall think i should go with. Im weighin the two based on: price, how long is the wait, and how well they perform. Im leaning toward the gryphon because id love having the gauges. But what do yall think. If this helps i have an 04 4x4 with the 5.4 3v and 3:73's and true dual maggies.

honestly if you want the guages look at the SCT livewire VS the gryphon as you can get both from PHP
I am running Xcal2's on my trucks but I want to upgrade to the Xcal3 on the fast one, anyway the sct spoftware is user friendly and many dyno shops can access the software and update the tune if I ever need it

Yeah i think ive made up my mind on this one, finally! Gryphon is prolly my best bet. But what tunes should i order. Im getting 3 and right now im thinking: 87 custom tow, 87 performance/economy, and a 93 performance.... sound about right?

I don't really use the truck much around town. But, we like it on trips, with or without the trailer. I told Bill this when I asked for the tunes.

The "armpit of Texas"?

Yes! Just running the canned tow tune gave me better gas mileage when not towing than stock - somewhere in the 15-15.5 mpg neighborhood. Now I'm getting 16-16.5 driving the same way, with a custom tune.
(To clarify: someone asked me what a "trip tune" was). I told Bill I didn't use the truck as a DD. But, we liked to use it on the highway on trips. I didn't really want to burn rubber off a stoplight, but, I wanted GOOD passing performance in the 55-7- mph range. And, I wanted good gas mileage if at all possible. Bill's tune seems to have given me that.
The more information you can give to the guy writing your tunes, the better you are going to like them.
