Superchips Flashpaq???
You're looking at the edge products website for their prices. You can buy an Edge brand new on autoanything for $360.
You need to do some research on custom tuning. It's a lot more then setting your shift firmness and basic **** like that.

Ok, I understand custom tunes vs. canned tunes. I have an '04 Lariat Supercab 4x4 with the 5.4. I have the Gotts mod, 2.5 AS leveling. The only other things I am planning to do are duals and possibly 20 inch tires. Would it make sense to buy custom tunes. I am past the stage of burning down the tires (but back in the day...lol) and just want to be able to improve my throttle response, mileage and overall performance. I have read great things about Gryphon, Xcal, Edge and the custom tunes, but do I really need that or would a Superchip serve someone like me just as well? Thanks for the discussion. As always, new members learn from those of you who have already been there, done that...
Lots of good info. in this thread. Although, I am still struggling with the performance changes since changing the tire size in the tuner.
About the speedometer being off. The difference between the scanguageII and the trucks speedo is between 3 and 5 mph at different speeds.
I don't know which is correct - or, that either is correct!!! Changing the tire size calibration clearly affected the RPM's at highway speeds - before the change - the truck would run at 2000 RPM at 70 MPH - after the change - it's at 1600 at 70 MPH.
I guess I could set the cruise at 80 MPH and head up the interstate - blow by a state trooper and when he asks if I know how fast I was going - I could tell him - I though I was going 80 - but, hoping you would tell for sure : )

Too slow -
Does all this loading and unloading of data mess-up the trucks computer? I read about the computer having to "learn". I know it all confuses me : ) I sort fell like I am messing with mother nature - or mother ford as the case may be!!

I've read a lot of threads in reaching my decision. I notice there are almost no threads dealing with complaints of no run or total freeze ups of PCMs with canned tunes from a Superchips tuner ... or they are hidden well.
My '07 F150 5.4 has cat back exhaust and a True Flow intake mod wise. I wrote Troyers asking for their recommendations, fully expecting the reply to recommend the Edge somethin else with custom tunes maybe
I wanted some better mileage, power, and towing, and trans shift improvements but I told them no other engine mods were anticipated.
The Superchips Flashpaq 1865 was recommended instead.
I drove over and Glenn told me all about the differences and why he recommended the SC. He explained the differences in the programs or tunes, what's affected, etc. Gave me over an hour of his time.
So with all that in mind, I went with the 1865. We loaded the mildest tune (an 87 octane tune that allows up to 4000 lb towing), and I could tell it before I got off the hill just in throttle response. Shifting was "nice". I haven't played with the other tunes in it yet, though he did seem surprised when it gave him 4 choices. One option was a performance only tune (no towing), with a choice of either 87 or 93 octane settings, and then there was a heavy tow tune.
My impression of custom tunes is they are just exactly as safe and as reliable as is the attention they get from the tune writer and his knowledge. They are written to address a narrower set of parameters, maybe gaining an extra couple HP, but sometimes being "finiky" in use It appears from posts here.
Canned tunes are written to a wider set of parameters I suspect, making them more forgiving maybe ... or so it would seem.
Be all that as it may, it's great! I suspect the jump in the first step is the greatest, that the others suffer deminished returns.
Yes, the new SC 1865 will handle CAIs and Cat Backs.
And the 1865 with canned tunes required no waiting.
Anyway .... I'm very pleased.
