Hey openclass, what class are you running in with your crfs? It's nice to see a fellow ford man and Honda man!

Thats cool! I wish I could race but time and $ is all spoken for now. I'm lucky to have enough time lately to go up north to ride trails.

I towed my 4 place ATV trailer with 3 Suzuki Eigers up to Wyoming Sunday, I'm guessing the trailer and machines have a combined weight around 2700 lbs. with my PHP Gryphon set on 87 Octane towing it got about 10 MPG, I really think I did better than that stock! I've sent an E-Mail to PHP, but not gotten a response yet!

2700# is a pretty light load. I doubt you really need to be using a towing tune. But what were the winds? If you're driving into a 30 mph headwind (or even a strong crosswind), it's going to absolutely KILL your gas mileage. Finally, what was the elevation change in this trip. If you're climbing, you're lifting all that weight and the gas mileage will reflect it.

Elevation changes alot in this particular trip, but it shouldn't effect it that much, should I just be using the Performance program to tow with ? Overdrive off or on ? Can't get an answer back from Corey wether or not they will fix my towing program for me, I'm dissapointed in PHP at this point!

don't tow on a performance tune.i know on my tow tunes- because of the shift strategies-it won/t go into od if a certain amount of throttle is used to maintain speed in lamen/s terms

HMMMMmmmm.....so I'm down to returning it to stock to tow and the money I spent on a programmer and custom tunes was a waste ?

Bill and Corey are out of town (and possibly out of touch) for a live tuning event through next Wednesday. Last week, they were "closed" to phone calls (a regular thing now - every third week of the month) so that Bill could get caught up on the tuning backlog. He's a VERY busy man!

I think elevation changes WILL effect your gas mileage a lot. Personally, I'd pull your load with the O/D on - I know I pull my 3600# trailer with it on and it stays in 4th most of the time unless I'm climbing hills.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with OCP's recommendation here. Your tow load is really pretty light - you're right around the breakpoint where a towing tune is helpful. Tow tunes are optimized to get heavy loads moving from a standstill. Your load is not that heavy and, I doubt you do much starting and stopping on that kind of trip. If you HAVE a tow tune, and this load is what you typically tow, it should be written for that weight, not for the 5000#+ standard high-profile trailer configuration that most tow tunes are written for.

In addition to a different shift strategy, towing tunes are typically richer than performance tunes. This helps the engine run cooler under heavy load. Again, I don't see 2700# as particularly heavy for a truck that's rated to pull nearly 10,000#. Monitor your CHT and TFT when you tow. If the performance tune makes things run hot, switch to the tow tune.

I turn my O/D off when I notice the transmission is starting to "hunt" between 3rd and 4th or when I notice the torque converter is having difficulty staying locked. As long as the TC remains locked most of the time and the transmission can stay in 4th without difficulty, I see no reason to drive with the O/D off.

I should add here - are you sure you have your tire size set correctly? If you've used the Custom Options menu and DIDN'T set it, the PCM thinks your tires are VERY small, so you will record fewer miles than you actually drove, giving you a false sense of gas mileage. I averaged 12.7 mpg pulling our trailer over three 11,000 ft passes in Colorado on a 2400 mile trip last summer. You should be able to do better.

I did set the tire size correctly, and with O/D on it was constantly upshifting and downshifting even on flat road ! Also on the steepest hill we encountered, it got to a hair over 5000 RPM and the engine was pinging, NEVER had it do that before, I really think that PHP's program was done wrong for my application, and I thought I had given them all the right info on the paperwork, so I'm a little disapointed. Only response I got back from them was that they could fix it or convert it back to an Edge for me and that I was being rude to suggest it was thier program, it was my "Lead Foot", that was what I consider to be poor customer service, whatever happened to "THe Customer is always right" ?

This really doesn't sound like the PHP that I know. Are you sure you didn't "go on the attack" with them? I noticed a certain "testiness" in your Visitor Message "conversation" with Kokopellif150, and all he did was suggest that you give him a call if you had any questions.

Regardless, you say PHP offered to fix your tune or, they could convert it back to an Edge. I don't really see what's wrong with that.

Without seeing both sides of your communication with PHP, of course, I can't impartially judge whether or not you received poor customer service.

Why don't you take PHP up on the offer to fix your tune? That's what I'd do.

in php's defense -i wouldn't say the customer is always right-
with my buisiness- my motto is- "YOUR SATISFACTION,OUR GOAL..."
my phone calls are always returned if not immediately answered,if didn't i would have such a repoir with my customers...

Nicely stated, OCP! It's certainly the way I'd try to run a business.

I told Corey I want them to fix the program and haven't had any response back yet, glad I wasn't towing anywhere this weekend.

OK, hope you get what you want soon. As I said, they're out of town and they've been having difficulty with their internet service host (dropped emails, database errors on the forum, etc.), so if you don't hear something by the end of next week, try contacting them again.
