Angry Troyer ethanol tunes!

I ordered Mike's ethanol tunes because he sounded like my truck would explode otherwise! Ok maybe that's a bit dramatic. The new tunes are all ethanol tunes and they completely stink. I had the original tunes for 50,000 miles and ran the pro tune exclusively for 45000 of them. We discussed my trip to AZ and the only gas you can get out there is 90oct at best. Even with ethanol in the tank, the original tunes were fantastic. The issue I have is the ethanol tunes make the truck feel like I'm hauling a small moon. Very sluggish in all three modes. I uploaded the stock tune as a result. The stock tune is the Roush tune with the speed limiter. No biggie there since I don't go over 100 anyway and the truck runs like an old deer. The 93 tune B4 ethanol made the truck run like a young terrified-of-the-lion-eating-his-@$$ deer! I have tried calling, emailing, and yes I even wrote Mike a letter trying to get my old tunes back. I had a catastrophic hard drive failure and lost the tunes 18 months ago. I upgraded my video card drivers and they destroyed my hard drive. Go figure. Nvidia to blame? nah! The same drivers are on my system now as I type. The point is this...I get no response at all from Troyer so I charged back the cost of the tunes. All I really want is my 93 non-ethanol tune emailed to me so I can reload it. My Xcal 2 is just a paperweight at this point. Now what's this about VMP tunes and a free tshirt?

You mentioned that you phoned, emailed, and even wrote a letter?
Who did you speak to when you called? I find it very difficult to believe that you have received no response. That just dosen't happen with that business.
Something does not sound right here.
By the way, are you running forced air induction because you said your stock tune is the Roush tune? Just curious.

Did you get an E85 tune? Are you running it with E10?

I would guess it is E10 tunes since E85 is hard to find out west. I have only seen one gas station with E85 and it was in southwest Washington and I live in northwest Oregon.

I have never had a problem with Troyer Performance and customer service. Troyer was very helpful when I had a no-start issue with new tunes.

The VMP tunes for supercharged trucks like ones with the Roush supercharger stink is the word I got from a member.... And you should have saved your old tunes on your computer, I have 6 tunes on mine. I also run mikes new ethanol and my truck runs like a champ.

Mike has always done what ever necessary to take care of a problem. Mike has always taken care of any inconsistency's that has come up. He has tuned my truck for over 5 years, and although we are lucky in our area and can still run 94 octane non ethanol fuel, his last tune is is spot on perfect. The truck is a daily driver 7 days a week and runs starts and performs flawlessly giving me an average local fuel economy of 16.2MPG. I would call back and talk to Anita, she will be sure that Mike gets the information and gets back to you.

i'm sure this will probably end up like every other problem a troyer customer comes on here and bitches about-definetely the wrong way to handle things. As always -there are two sides to every story, reminds me of last guy who said i pretty much told him so, at least he manned up and admitted he was wrong by coming on these forums and handling it like he did...

Cyberart, you said you called, emailed and even wrote a letter; did you get NO response? Did he tell you to "get lost"? Did he not understand what you wanted?

What was it? Other people have said Troyer DID come through when they really tried to talk to him about problems with his tunes. Have you actually done that? While Mike CAN be somewhat "short" when his ability is questioned, especially publicly, as you've done, he has a reputation of providing expert tunes and correcting problems quickly if they're brought to his attention. Are you truly giving him a chance to do his part?

Ahem...blow me noclassrookie! Yeah...you really told me... Let us all bow to this man on his high horse. Then kill the horse!

Mike called and sent me new tunes. Thanks Mike. I cancelled the chargeback too. Turns out the files got corrupted either through email, Liveload, or some other way. He mentioned an AC compressor kicked on during a load session on a pc and that corrupted a file. Go figure. Any way I got my 3 e-tunes and my 3 old non-e tunes and I'm happy. For a while there I thought something might have happened to Troyer. Very unusual to not get any kind of response from anyone...at all. It was like they disappeared. I chargeback $ and the next day I get a call and new files. Hated to do it but it got my problem resolved toot sweet! Money is more powerful than the force. By the way, Troyer charged me less than half of what VMP's website is charging for their generic tunes. Mike's are custom to my dyno. So here's what I did. I killed all power to my home, booted into safemode on my laptop, loaded the Xcal drivers manually, disabled the cooling fan as well, loaded the tunes and voila!, no corruption. I'm burning rubber again!

Strange, I'd think there would be a CRC verification to prevent the upload of corrupted files. But, it's good that you're all "fixed".

I am happy everything worked out for you and the tunes did what you expected. There is usually a reason when things go bad. I would recommend burning you're tunes to CD for safe keeping, that is what I have always done in the past.

What is CRC verification and I'm glad it's all good too! All but this heckler throwing his opinion around where it's not wanted...

Ok, guys, state your thoughts in a more tactful manner without the cursing or just stay quiet.

Thanks Matt. I have 6 tunes now(3 ethanol and 3 not so much!) and they are on 2 cd's as we speak. I had them saved but my PC hard drive crapped on me and I lost them. Live & learn I guess. I thought about VMP but the cost for a non-dynolog specific tunes like I have from guru Mike is way too much. Is there anything he DOESN'T know about F150's/Mustangs? I have heard good and bad concerning Justin's tunes but the T-shirt is free man! Anyway...Do you know how to play with any of the MANY options in the tunes? I changed the tire size and the rest is major greek to me! Better left alone I guess.
