Troyer ethanol tunes stink!
Wow! This has been a lively thread!
In case you're still interested, Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) is similar to Checksum verification, only better. A "code" is created based on the original contents of the file and is stored with the file. Then, when the file is accessed, the code is recreated based on the current file's contents and compared with the original code. If there's any difference, the file is assumed to be corrupted and is generally considered unusable. It's theoretically possible for the original code and the code produced by a corrupted file to match, but it is extremely unlikely. Checksum is similar, but the likelihood of matching results on corrupted files is somewhat higher due to the process involved.
Since a corrupted tuning file COULD lead to engine damage, I'd like to know it's valid. I wonder if any of the programmers we talk about in these forums have any checks on the validity of the files that are uploaded?
Rather than build the validation into the hardware device, I'd expect it to be in a software loading application. Does the XCal use a software application to upload new tunes?

Something I read in another forum (a very long thread that concerned itself with a diesel tune) seemed to imply that, at least for the programmer discussed in the thread, there was no validation. There were huge spikes in a fueling map that was recovered from the device.

I got my tunes and told the people who were rude to me to **** off. I'm a bit disappointed Jim-bo feels he has the right to suspend someone based on his own opinion. Tell me again how there's no bias big guy!?!
