edge evolution programmer

Hey i have a 2004 f150 supercrew nbs with legal dual roush exhaust and i was told i cant run a roush cai or it will run lean. I was told to fix this problem ill need a programmer. will this do the trick? how much performance and gas milage will i gain from this in level two? please let me know!
does anyone run this programmer?
also is it fine to run 89 octane fuel in my truck for the level two program?
is this program a good buy for my truck so i can run the cai?

thanks so much

I could be wrong:

Level 1 is adjustment in shift (stiff).
Level 2 is Towing (so slight power gain)
Level 3 is Performance at 91o.

From what I have heard Level 1 and 2 are both low octane, does not say 1 =87 and 2 = 89. The way it reads sounds like 1/2 = 87 or 89.

close solomonHK,

level 1 adjusts your transmission only, i.e. your shift points and shift firmness
level 2 is towing. it gives you a lot of power and runs on 87 octane or better, but it shifts later than normal to give you more torque
level 3 is performance, but runs on 91 octane or better.

also, the problem with running lean is only on aftermarket intakes on 2004+ 5.4L, so if you just have the exhaust, it shouldnt be a problem.

If you are wanting to add the CAI, the Edge is not a good choice as it's programs are written for the stock intake. You will need either the Gryphon from PHP, which is the same hardware as the Edge but has the option for custom tunes, or the Xcal3 from VMP or Troyer.

Yes, the 2004 and early 2005 were known to come from the factory in a near lean condition, so a CAI can lead to problems. Personally, I would not run a CAI on any 3V without custom tunes. I love the Gryphon and Bill's tunes.

1.how much will a gryphon run?
2.will this show great improvements?
3.what options could i get with this tuner? performance, fuel efficiency, and towing?
4.will these options show up just as the different "levels" do on the edge evolution? (i dont want anything too difficult to program/change tunes)

This is where you get the Gryphon.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ssage-php.html

It comes with 3 canned tunes. A shift only tune, a towing tune using 87 and a performance tune that uses 91+. These tunes are very good and give you about 25 HP and some better economy. You can then decide what type of tunes you really want, discuss it with Bill, and he will write your custom tunes. He can write the tunes to take advantage of your mods as well as an economy tune or performance. Hisd tunes will greatly improve the shifting and the downshifting.

The canned tunes will cause more cai problems. You will want custom tunes.

The canned tunes in the Gryphon are basically the same as in the Edge, and are written for the stock intake. You just get the opportunity for custom tunes when you are ready. That is the main difference in the Grypohn and the Edge. That, and super customer service from PHP. Bill at PHP, used to work at Edge and helped write their canned tunes.

The canned tune comes 87 shift tune, 87 towing tune and 91 performance tune. You can run 89 with the towing tune, and bump your timing +1, but why do so? Just run 87. I ran the 91 performance with a timing bump of =1 because 93 is all we have here in Texas. When I got the my custom tunes, I kept the canned 87 towing tune and got an 87 Performance tune and a 93 Performance tune. On the canned tunes, I put 30,000 miles on it most usinfg the performance tune bumped to 93. Now that I have custom, I run the 87 Performance most of the time as it gives me all I really need.

If you want an 89 tow tune, Bill can certainly write that for you. Basically, in a custom tune, he will do anything you request.
