Benefits to Troyer Tuner?

I've a 2004 5.4 with 4" lift running on 35's with the stock 3.73 gears. I am getting a Roush Off-Road exhaust put on shortly (as soon as it arrives). I am also looking into getting a tuner. But I was wondering what the benfits of a tuner would be? I'm not planning on doing any more performance mods and I don't plan on running this truck down the drag strip. Should I just forget the tuner and save my money for more gas or would this be a worth while investment? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Carl

All around drivability will be better and so will be your shift firmness and shift point.

All I have is an exhaust and taller tires. My Gryphon is the one mod I would not give up. It added needed power, about 25 to 30 hp, plus the shifting is far better. The best improvement is the downshifting. The truck goes now when I need it to go.

You need a tuner to recalibrate the speedometer with the taller tires.

I do need to recalibrate my speed-o and o-meter but I can live with those being being off.

I know there are a ton of options out there as far as tuners go, but which ones should I be more concerned about?

There is the Edge Evo that comes with canned tunes, that is popular. Then there are three well known custom tuners. Power Hungry Performance that tunes the Gryphon, which uses the same hardware as the Edge, and the VMP and Troyer, both using the Xcal3. All are good, just depends on what you want out of the unit and how long you are willing to wait before getting it.

Also, ask yourself, do you want to monitor the engine right now (with gauges) or only when you throw a code? I like to see alerts NOW instead of later when it might be to late. Just more stuff to ponder.

I have the Roush Offroad with a K&N intake and Troyer Tunes, also with 35" tires like you, and its awesome.

What do you mean "regear"? I have not seen that mentioned before with tuners.

I fully agree...If you regear (changing gears in the rear end of your truck .and front as well if 4x4) You will see a huge diffrence and Im not kidding...I geared to 4.56's and couldnt be happier...well until my Troyer tune gets here
