Programmer

I'm in need a of programmer. I have been reading up on them and need to make sure it will correct all the conditions I have. One is tires/gear I have 4.88 gears and 37/12.50/17 tires
Next is CAI and exhaust.
Last would be adding Efans
I think that is all.
What are the suggestions and any special deals on them

I think PHP, VMP or TP could probably set you up. But, my only personal experience is with Bill Cohron at www.powerhungryperformance.com I suggest you give him a call. The number is on the website and I guarantee he will not try to sell you anything you can't use. They're good folks.

Well, Let me start this one first and tell you about VMP TUNING!! I have a 04 F150 Screw with 4.6, 31" tires, 4.10 gears, CAI/ True Dual Exhaust, and Custom Tunes from Justin at VMP Tuning.

FANTASTIC CHOICE!! The tuning with the X-cal2 tied everyhting together perfectly!

www.vmptuning.com

Be sure to check him out, and his turn around time is TOPS!! Customer Service pretty darn awesome as well.

Sorry Tom - Beat you to it!

Big hijack here: You ever get nervous 50+ feet off the ground with a gazillion volts rushing around you? Seems like the worst of two worlds to me!

And, everything I see says Justin is good too, just like you say. But, maybe he should talk to both Bill and Justin - then make up his own mind!

Justin at www.VMPTuning.com is my choice as well as the Xcal2. The Xcal3 is the new device, it had a few firmware problems when it first came out. I think they have been fixed but the Xcal2 is tried and true. The difference between the two is nill and none.

eliminate, I'm not sure the XCal will go to 4.88 without a custom tuner file. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Do a lot of research on e-fans and controllers. Check the SPAL controllers and there are several fans that are good.

That is one of the main reasons I wanted to get some input on programmers. I know I read about a few that only go to 4.56.
I am at least 10mph off now so that is kinda important to have the speedo correct.
Does the Edge or PHP version of the edge do 4.88 gears or adjustable that high.

Xcal2 can only go up to 4.56s. However the tuner can adjust it for you. I was running 4.88s and 37s on my 2006 F150 and Justin was able to fix it right up. Yes, the Edge goes up to 4.88s.

I read about Troyer but I don't have 6 months to wait on a tune. I don't mind waiting a few weeks or a month but anthing over that is crazy.

eliminate, also as far as intakes and exhaust there are so many options but I can vouch for the 3-inch AF1 and though I have no direct use the S&B gets great reviews as well and looks to be a quality product.

As far as exhausts my suggestion would be to decide whether you want a single or dual and where you want to exit. Then find a custom exhaust shop that does mandrel bends and have them make a custom exhaust for you. Stick to 2.25 to 2.5-inch diameter tubing for dual and 3-inch for single and cut the Y off and replace with an X if dual. Personally even if going single I'd cut the all 2.5-inch stock Y and get a twin 2.5-inch into single 3-inch out to keep it classy instead of twin 2.5 into short section of single 2.5 then single 3-inch like all the bolt on's. Magnaflow makes some nice X and Y's and take your pick of mufflers.

I have a single in/Dual out exhaust setup now and a K&N Setup for CAI
It does on occasion stall out when I let off and go around hard right hand turns slow. That is just the idle dropping to low as far as I can tell but would be nice to fix that with a programmer.

I don’t know what the deal is on that, that’s a long wait. I first got my tunes back in 2004; back then Mike was the only one that had it going on for the new 3v, and it’s been all good for me ever since, no problems, glitches, etc. Mike knows F150’s, that’s for sure; the wait thing is what it is

Best of luck to ya no matter who you choose, it’s all good when it works

Hi there,

This may be considered a hijack, but I feel the need to step in. I don't know for sure, but I imagine that Mike and Justin do more than custom tuning. If Bill was able to sit at his computer and do nothing but custom tune all day, our customers would have their calibrations within a few days' time. However (and I can only speak for Bill on this), besides custom tuning, he also writes software and firmware (he's been working on Pegasus, our download software), creates hardware (can't tell you about this project until it's finished!), does subcontracting work for a few companies (he's at Panoz at this very minute tweaking a custom car for Patrick Dempsey!), does live tuning (he was in Alabama a couple of months ago working on a diesel truck for the new Fast and Furious movie), takes phone calls, and answers e-mails. Can you tell I'm proud of him?

That is a typical day in our office. And that's if we don't receive any calls from customers with "emergencies."

Mike, Justin, and Bill are all excellent tuners. I think the wait -- whatever it may be -- is probably worth it. We actually offered to cancel a customer's order this weekend because he was getting antsy about receiving his tunes. I'd rather lose a sale than have a customer upset with us. As of the last e-mail I received from him, he's decided to wait for Bill's custom tuning after all. (BTW, We never charge anyone until their tunes are ready because we don't think it's fair to hold onto someone's money indefinitely, so this wasn't a money issue.)

Patience, Grasshopper... you will be rewarded well.

my understanding on the php and vmp is they are pretty quick. which i don't have a problem with. but to buy something and have to wait many months for it is not what i want to do.
I only want to be able to order something and when i get it I remember what it is when i get it
