WOW!! I wish some of the guys that have posted to this thread that had issus with TP tunes would have said so earlier. Then i would not have bought 3 custom tunes that shift from 1 st to 2nd that i dont like. I feel like i wasted $150 bucks or what ever it is. I'm sure its way passed been able to get them fixed and im not in the mood to wait a few weeks or months to do so.

If i had of known about some of these shift issues i probably would have waited and did more research on the custom tuning. But there was a lot of peeps talking about TP so i jumped right on that band wagon. Well to my horror they did not work for me. Ahh well live and learn.

The good thing with Justin is you can buy one tune to try out and see if its right for you.
If i had my $150 bucks back i would get Justin at VMP to write me a whole new set of tunes. I think ill be getting a 87 perf tune normal mpg economy and maybe a 91 perf tune next.

Wow 05supercrew I can remember when you wrote a pretty good review on the T.P. tunes a few months back, let me know how it goes, pros and cons.

I dont hate the tune, he did fix my lean condition, and the intake doesnt drone. I just dont like the 1-2 gears shift and the flat spot at mid range. I hate it when Im at 40-50 mph and I have to go full throttle for the truck to move. I was never completely happy. I e-mail Justine at VMP yesterday morning and never got a reply.

Just to let you guys know I did a little research on my way to work...

Using my scangauge I checked where the 1-2 shift point was at varying throttle positions. At idle the TPS read 12 and at WOT it read 75. With TP's 93 octane tune here's what I got...

TPS=24 1-2 shift at ~2,200 RPM

TPS=30 1-2 shift at ~3,300 RPM

TPS=75 1-2 shift at ~5,300 RPM

I tried to get a reading at TPS=50 but I had a hard time keeping it right at 50. It jumps from the 30s to the 70s pretty quick!

Not really sure if that will mean anything to you guys, but I was hoping someone with VMP tunes could do the same thing...

- NCSU

PS: I don't seem to have any of the drivability or shifting issues you guys are talking about...

Justin is getting ready to leave to go out of town until the 12th, as his website says, to do some dynos in Houston and another stop as well so I'm sure he's getting ready for that. Hang in there, he'll get to you.

If he doesn't see anything out of whack in the tune, I may switch to the 3" tube also. Where did you get yours at? Haven't seen just the tubes or inserts for sale anywhere.
I got it from Troyer for about a buck 25 or so and he adjusted the tunes accordingly. That's the tube with insert already in. I talked with Justin briefly about it as well and got the feeling from what he said that the 3.5 intake is on the edge of too big. Just my interpretation. Not that it can't be tuned properly so it won't run lean, just maybe at idle engine speed it is tough.

I have more questions. Where it says (octane tune is for) <<<what does that mean????

Also in the (tune request) what does Justin offer??? I want an 87 high performance tune and a 87 performance that will help gas mileage??

Lastly, i need the flasher serial # from my Xcal2, is that the 16 digit bar code on the back??

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help!!!!

It's just what octane you want the tune. So you'd put 87.

Well he makes a gas mileage tune, an aggressive gas mileage, performance, towing, etc.
