DAMN! Just found this thread, was hoping on jumping in on how wrong that Adam guy was.

Oh well, yall did a decent job.

Noticed when you asked if he had done a gear swap on a new body style, he replied "yes" and he put 16" rims on it ?????? MORON ! (16" rims don't clear the brake for you guys who didnt know )

Good job guys, that guy probably hasn't seen a post 2000 car !

and this is the reason WHY I NEVER, EVER bring my truck to these "well trained" Ford Techs.

Thats a pretty vague statement - not all Ford techs are like that though. I have some damn good techs at my service department. Especially the diesel technicians - it always amazes me to watch how they can tear apart an entire diesel engine and put it all back together. Definetly some talent / skill involved. But yeah, at the same time, there are definetly some hackers out there.

Isn't this the case in any profession? Keep it in mind next time you need the services of a doctor, tax accountant, lawyer, dentist, plumber, etc., etc.

There's also some good ones.

Who do you trust? Bubba down the street? The dealer is the deciding factor in how "well" their techs are. If they don't make them keep up their online courses and do the Fordstar lectures, then the dealer is at fault. Most dealers anymore require their techs to take the courses and stay up to date on the new model training, but it's the dealer's credibilty, and $$$$$$.

No, not that vague, and actually I agree with you 100%. I have met plenty of Dealer Techs who are VERY knowledgeable about their profession. But when your dropping off your truck for work, who really goes in, interviews each guy, gives them some tests to perform, compares them against the other guys, then decides who they want to work on their car, and hope he is actually the one who does ??? Its a crap shoot. 2 out of the 10 guys maybe very, very smart, but your chances aren't too good. and to tell ya the truth, I don't trust people. Who knows what they may accidently do to your truck... then have the ability to hide the fact because you were not there. (example: run the engine with no oil )Even the "good ones" will make mistakes.

I feel I have enough know-how to work on my own truck. I own a shop, so tools, lifts, and other "handy" items are readily available. I beleive since its MY truck, I should know more about it. What happens out on the trail ? Something breaks and you have to stand there like a dork, not knowing anything about your truck. Then call a tow truck and pay to have it brought down to a Stealership. IMO, owning and operating a vehicle gives you some responsibility on knowing how to work on, and how it operates. Over in Germany, you can't even get your driving license unless you prove you have some mechanical skills and can do minor repairs and your own oil changes.

So...... I tried updating with Fusion, and found out that my programmer is an older version and can't update through Fusion..... only Lightning. I updated and still no progress on correcting the speedo, so I am sending it back to Edge for them to look at.

Edge did say that it only gives the correct speed on the Edge display (which mine is not doing), and not the actual speedo gauge. I did not know this when I bought the programmer, I really wish it corrected the actual gauge, because now my truck is racking up more miles on the odometer.

I wasn't too happy to find out about this, especially being the money I spent on it. Hypertech does make a speedo calibration unit, but it cost $220. In the long run it might be worth it because when I go to sell my truck, it won't have a ton of miles, it will show the actual.

Has anyone ever used this speedo calibrator from Hypertech?

Well, I was going to add the speedo calibrator on top of the edge. Dont know if it will work. Edge has decided though to exchange my programmer for a new one, since it is not correcting the speedo and odometer.
