Edge claims to be the fastest uploader. I warmed up my truck for 5 minutes, then drove it around for another 5 minutes with the heat cranked so the Xcal got warmed and while I was sitting in the truck I didnt freeze. I installed the tune in 42* temp. I checked the Stratagy first just for the hell of it.

The Edge does just a partial write (as per Bill, stated earlier).

The X2/X3 & other SCT tuners do a FULL write.

So the time difference is a non sequitur, as you are loading a canned 'genericized' tune, versus a full 7 digit strategy-matched custom tune.

Prety compelling (and telling) difference, IMHO.

Transfer rate is the same - there is just more data to load. The transfer is also largely a function of the write cycle timing of the flash devices in the PCM.

FWIW.... Yup - having enough voltage is crucial to a successful, error-free load, as is the temperature of both the 'loader' and the flash devices in the PCM; specs for operation (reads) and programming (writes) differ for most of those types of components. [I explained this in exhaustive detail a few months ago if anyone cares to look ... lol]

I'll take the wait - big deal... why is everyone in such an all-fired 'gotta have it yesterday' mindset ????

Xmas jitters, maybe? :santa:

That would make sense. Everyone`s in hurry to get the tunes loaded so they see how the truck drives. And lets face it, the longer it take for the tune to load the more chances something can go wrong. Like a battery dieing.

Are you all talking about loading from the computer to the Xcal or from the Xcal to the truck? If it's taking you anywhere near 10 minutes to load from the Xcal to the truck then somethings up b/c my Xcal loads a tune in about 1-2 minutes. Even while in Covington in 30-40 degree temps we were loading tunes in 1-2 minutes.

Xcal to truck. And if yours is installing in 1-2 minutes what is everyone elses loading at. Are yours custom tunes or canned? Also is there a difference in load time between the Xcal 2 and Xcal3?

I have my custom Troyer loaded on the Xcal right now but I've had other tunes on this Xcal and it's always loaded in about the same time. It goes 0-100% at about a %/second. I just switched to 93 Max Performance but will likely go back to 93 Tow tommorow and I'll time it. It just seems like a huge difference in load times if mine takes a couple minutes tops compared to close to 10?

Mine definitly isnt going a % a second. Im also talking about time from hook up to unplug. I dont know, maybe different computers, stratagy codes. I know everything was done right, and I have no problems.

Yea who knows, but as long as everythings working right I guess that's what counts. Besides how often does anyone re-flash once you've got it all tweaked.......I run the same tune all the time. I only reflashed b/c I was timing the difference between 93 tow and 93 max and once back to 93 tow doubt I'll reflash again.

Yup, I will reflash to the 93 performance tune but not for a while.

I guess you guys are right! It's not like you're re flashing all the time. I can wait! I guess I am more concerned with making sure it's warm enough since I will probably get mine in the Jan/Feb time frame.

My guess is because you are switching from tune to tune versus loading from stock to tune. It takes a lot longer to load from stock than it does to switch back and forth between tunes.

I also noticed it takes FOREVER to load the custom tunes on Xcal versus Edge. I just go back in the house and do other things while it's loading. I can't stand to just sit there.

1%................................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..............................................2% lol

I was thinking the samething. It has to save the stock tune then load the custom tune. And it does take forever. I had my cell phone to play some games.
