Question for those of you with Troyer Tunes!
I switched to Troyer tunes cause the Edge was causing a lean condition to my truck. Also, the Edge is geared more for a stock truck and my truck when done, will be far from stock! I do not do any towing. I was just curious as to what the parameters of the tow tunes are.
I guess I got lucky never had the lean issue. As far as the shift points Bill just did a custom tune for me and you can tell a differance now on the shifting from the stock Edge.

I see some members here are running a 93Max tune. Is it considerably better performing tune than the 93performance???

I think I switched between tunes a total of 10 times since I have had the chip. I only switch when I tow or cannot find 93 or 94 octane. Set it at the highest and lay off the pedal if you want economy.

Anyway.... Be sure to post your thoughts on the tunes, uploading, etc...
Anyway.... Be sure to post your thoughts on the tunes, uploading, etc...Loading the tunes=both tuners are very easy, menu driven to keep things easy.
The speed the programer loads the tune= hands down the Edge can load 3 tunes before the xcal3 loads 1. Holy crap I was ready to call for take out
Shift firmness=Edge was better to me, I had it at #6 in the Edge unit which I thought was mild but is a little more firm then the Troyer tune. Troyers is ok not bad.
Power down low,Honestly the power down low feels like my stock tune with different shift points. The Edge had more low end power. Again I didnt floor it.
Mid range power was another win with the Edge it just felt better. With the Troyer tune the rpms just seem to climb a lot before the truck starts to move.
Top end, hands down goes to Troyer pulls real nice as soon as you hit it, the Edge would fall short at this point. I just wish this power was at mid range.
Keep in mind I had the Edge for a year and a half and the Troyer tune for 5 minutes. The truck also has been sitting for a week. I think ive been listening to so many people praise the TP tunes that I just expected to jump into a lightning. I actually still have high hopes for this tune after a few drive cycles and cant wait to do the 93 tune but that wont be for a few months. I will give my write up on Monday and hope by then things will change alot. Now I need to start looking for the next mod.

For me the shifting is perfect, much better then with the edge on my truck. it shifts progressively firmer as you push the throttle further.
cruise down a highway at about 45 or 50, then floor it. You will love that 2nd gear passing pull.

I don't know but I felt my Troyer tunes right away and it was low and midrange where I felt it most. Mine changed very little powerwise over drive cycles and I didn't feel any significant power increase except tip in as the MAS figured out what the hell was going on with the AF1 3.5 and I was able to catch a little rubber again. Then again I ran 93 right off the bat. Never had the Edge but ThumperMX113 had a good dyno comparison of his Edge vs his VMP dyno tunes and low and midrange was the biggest weakness of the Edge (I should say advantage of the custom tune). My Troyer dyno looked much the same with fat numbers below the curve so I am suprised to hear that. Hopefully it impresses you more with 93 or maybe cycles so you felt like it was money well spent. Are you running the same intake?
I got the Xcal 2 from Troyer in Oct. and ran the 87 perf. tune first for about 3 weeks and was very impressed!!
Finally ran the tank down enough to fill up on 93 and switched to 93 perf. tune. Again, very impressed!!
To my butt the shifts seem about the same between the two, both excellent, the main difference I notice with the 93 perf. is at WOT, as in it gets up and passes even quicker than the 87 tune does, though I thought the 87 was pretty damn good about it.. LOL
I haven't tried the other tune I ordered, the 87 tow. My understanding is that it's just fine to run the tow tunes at any time, but no to towing with the performance tunes.

I got my tunes back in May and ran the 87 performance all the way until about 3 weeks ago. I was very impressed when I installed the 87 performance tune. I got my new gears installed and installed the 92 performance tune (92 octane is the highest they have in Hawaii) the same evening. I wasn't as impressed with the 92 tune as I was when I first installed the 87 tune. Maybe something to do with installing the new gears at the same time or simply I have just gotten used to the custom tuning so I don't experience that "wow" factor that I did initially.
Ya i like the feel of Troyers tunes better than the edge. The edge shifted pretty violent even if you were light on the gas. Troyers tunes shifts firmer depending on how much gas you give it which i like. Both tunes would squeel the tires everytime on the 1-2 shift if you were WOT (No it wasn't belt squeel and i had stock size tires at the time
) The Troyer tunes have a considerable amount of power down low and at WOT over the edge IMO. As far as mid range i am not impressed with either in that area. Also keep in mind i have a 2valve motor.
