So what are all the guys doing that are running around with custom tunes...not all of them do there own maintenence on the truck? This really is going to scare me off and its a shame because I was looking forward to some Troyer tunes. I talked to the service guys and they don't like programmers either so if I have the PCM locked there going to know something is up

When you go in for service tell them to tell you everything they plan on doing to the truck. Or tell them to do only what you want done and thats it.

I just called my local dealership and asked about it. They only do it when there is a problem that pops up in "Oasis" apparently a system they use. But all you gtta do is tell them and they will not jack with it. So says the service manager at Gullo Ford.

Couldn't you just program your truck back to stock before you bring it in and write down your stock code. Then tell them to not flash the truck because it is running fine and you have heard to many horror stories of problems with trucks getting re-flashed at the dealer. Then when you get your truck back couldn't you check to see if the code has changed??? If they do reflash, depending on the tuner, couldn't you just call mike troyer, or whoever custom tuned your truck, and let him know what happened and he would be able send the necessary file over the computer??? I believe all other tuners will just read the new stock tune when you plug them back in. I guess if you have the warranty and you wanna get something fixed thats under warranty you have to go to the stealership. I never go to the stealership. It was just a bad experience for me and my father who also has F150, not to mention expensive as hell. Sorry for the little rant here.

Maybe someone could talk to Mike or their tuner about this???

No .. I believe Mike as well as a lot of other tuners will charge you for new tunes. I'm not completely positive so maybe someone can shine some light on this. . maybe MGDFan?

Yes, you will be charged again if they have to re-write tunes due to a re-flashed pcm. Sucks......but kind of only makes sense.

Alright, here we go. I have not tested it against the IDS, but the flash tuners will not be able to flash the PCM. The IDS should not say anything unless it says "check module programming signal" The workshop books i went through do not even refrence this signal. All the flash tuners want to see a "key on" position. As soon as that comes up and you "key-on" the flash tuner doesn't even see the signal so it will just sit there and do nothing. Now if you really think this is for "you" i would wire a switch inline to a seperate place. If you did this right and made it "sight-unseen". If you do have an FI system, i suggest you do pull this pin if you plan on visiting your dealer. This has been verified on my F150 P221, any other vehicles post your info and i will check to see if you can do the same.

Cliffs:
Disable PCM flash
Still able to read DTCs
Still able to read PIDs & DRMs

OBD2 port, pin #13, violet. If you are looking at the female end of the connector it is the 4th pin from the bottom right.

Yeah that definitely sucks... Sounds like some easy money for the tuner.

So with the edge, no matter how many times the dealer flashes your PCM you will be able to load the program again?

Thanks

If you returned to stock prior to their reflashing it and your Edge software recognizes the HEX code they have installed, then yes..

Not necessarily - a reflash can, and has, bitten some folks here on the ***. All it takes is a reflash to an unsupported strategy and you are toast until an update is released.

So using this as a premise against getting a custom tune is baseless.

Just take appropriate precautions.

Don't worry so much, and go get some custom tuning to enjoy your truck more.
