The caveat being, your '04 ( which have been known to run lean stock) is not misbehaving already.

Try calling TP - you have LOTS of questions, bud !

I have talked to Anita over at Tryor. She said that both the Airaid and AF1 are just fine to run without custom tunes.

I had to update mine to the beta version for it to work.

Wrong. The EDGE Evo will not correct air/fuel ratios but it does correct for other mods like different gears or larger/smaller tires & wheels. The EDGE Evo does not take into account any engine modofications but EDGE does say that if you have a replacement intake or aftermarket exhaust it will help them work better. Their words, not mine.

Obviously the context here was about (bolt-on) engine mods - intakes in specific

And despite their marketing rhetoric, if a truck and/or intake is misbehaving A/F-wise, nothing short of a custom tune will 'make it better'.
As well, an exhaust is an exhaust - no tuner can help them 'work better' - they are pretty much tuning-independent.
