Definately worth the money. My truck was always sluggish for some reason but not anymore.

install it and enjoy, before the warrenty is up update it. there is a version code on the back of the Edge, I believe the latest released version is 24, if I'm wrong someone will point it out. most of the updates are for different hex files (newer trucks), some updates are to fix problems with those hex files and some updates improve the programing in the Edge. If your Edge was recently made then it sould be good to go.

I have had my Edge since July 06, on an 05 truck. I updated it when I received it since there were some issues going on that affected 05s and my unit had been on a shelf for awhile. If I bought a unit now, manufactured in late 06 or so, I would just install it, assumiong it would not needan update as most of the recent updates were for 07s and 06s. Then, if my truck showed evidence of a problem, such as a shudder or whatever, then I would take it back out and do an update. The most important thing is to follow thier instructions explicitly. Most of the problems can be avoided by doing so.

Just update it. I've updated mine 10+ times at least. It doesn't hurt it. And a few times, it was MUCH better than before.

That's what I thought. I don't see that it could hurt anything. I just got it from Troyer so I imagine that it hasn't been there THAT long but I can't see why not to. The instructions say to do the check with updates and if there are some available that it will say so. It doesn't say though that you HAVE to update it before using.

I was just concerned about updating it for no reason and then messing something up. Appears that won't happen.

Every Edge thread I read people state the transmission shifts more firm and quicker. Does this effect the transmissions overall life? Don't these transmission stink already as it is? I'm hesitant to get an Edge if it's going to wear out my tranny quickly.

I had to update mine to the latest version. My truck is late 06 and the Edge was made in 02/07. I think it's fine to update. By the way, the guy at Edge said that you shouldn't do anything while programming (open door, turn on/off radio etc.) FYI not sure what it would do but it could interfere with the process.

This can be argued but i was always told a shift kit can help your tranny life cause its shifts are instant. No more slippin in gear.
