Disappointed with lack of service
Disappointed with lack of service
After researching and reading about how much everyone loved their Troyer Performance upgrades I purchased a stage 2 kit for my F-150 earlier this year. I received the equipment in a very timely manor and was very excited about the performance upgrades. When I finally got my tunes and loaded my Street Performance settings I was thrilled with the changes in response and shift points. Unfortionately I have some bad engine knock and my fuel economy is no better than it was before. I have ran several tanks of every kind of 93 octane gas I can find with no change in performance. I finally spent money at a local dyno and datalogged my truck and sent it over to Troyer. I have waited over 2 months now for some kind of corrections to be made on my tunes and have had no luck. They have been very pleasant on the phone to talk to but that doesnt make my truck run any better. The only response I get is that they will get to it when they "get a chance". Of course they would like me to drive 10 hours to their shop to put my truck on their dyno and spend more money to do so. As much as I would love to spend time on the dyno that is not why I purchased the kit or how it was advertised. I spent good money for what I thought was going to be a great improvement on my truck. Now I feel like I took a perfectly good truck and made it junk. Whats more disappointing is seeing all the time Mike spends posting on this site when he doesnt have enough time to fix a customers bad tune. Simple or not I should have corrected tunes. Anyone else have any of these same issues with getting your tunes updated.
I have also been somewhat disappointed. I thought I had researched well, and Troyer was the way to go. I don't remember reading that after you purchased the product, you should Datalog, which would require spending more money and time.
I HAVE been happy with the improvement in my performance and towing ability. After a year of having the upgrade I am now setting codes. They are all "Lean cylinder bank". Troyer now tells me I need to Data log, and to do it correctly I need to buy a piece of $500.00 equipment from them to check Air/Fuel ratios. My other option is to go to a Dyno and spend $125.00 hr to gather the Data.
Maybe it was my ignorance before buying, but I don't recall reading about the Data logging. I only seem to set the code about every two weeks. I don't want to damage the engine, but I also don't want to spend the time and additional money to Data log.
FYI, be aware of this before you buy!

built54, they just keep saying that they have my datalogging and will get to it when they find time. But in the mean time my truck still doesnt run right. They are busy filling orders and collecting other peoples money and cant find time to correct a current customers problem. Thats poor service.
drhrsh, I know your pain. Whats disappointing is after going to and spending money at a local dyno I have had no luck getting updates from Troyer. The dyno shop I took it to said the tune was clearly not right. But rather than pay them to fix it Troyer was supposed to make the corrections with this data. Well so far no progress on their end. This is why I have always done business with someone local, if you have a problem like this you can deal with it in person. Being that they are all of 10 hours from my house I cant just drive there to resolve this in 1 day.

I personally know and have worked with every employee on Mikes staff and find it totally hard to believe that any of them would make a statement like " we will get to it when we have the time". If any of his employees would make a statement like that they would be gone in a heart beat. That is not the way they do business, and never will be...
There is something more going on here that is not being revealed. Did you speak to Mike himself? How did you send the dyno created information?
By the way, the data logging procedure and recommendations are clearly explained in the purchasing process. There are documents in the CPW's that are mandatory when you order that also make mention of it.
If you "are" experiencing issues then I suggest you call and request to speak to Mike himself. He is no doubt one of the easiest people to talk to that I know and normally spends twice the time necessary with someone if they have an issue to find resolve..

Marc, I have spoken to Mike at length. As I stated they are very pleasant to talk with and have never gotten short with me on the phone but it is the lack of followup and response to correcting the issue. And I promise you that was the response I had been given at different times. About a month ago they were busy filling orders on a group buy. That doesnt sit well with a customer that has already paid and hasnt gotten the correct tunes. People should know that its not always just plug and go, and if you are one of the unfortionate that have to go through this proccess this is the response you might also receive. Maybe its because I live 10 hours away, I dont know. Are you local to him?
Crafter,
I am just curious, when you reload the factory tune or the 87 Octane tune, does the knock go away. There are others who have had this type of experience. Some times it is a misunderstanding. Some times it is not. Please enable personal messages on your profile. I am just an hour away from you and can help you datalog. This is the absolute key. Nobody can help without complete datalogs in addition to the dyno charts.

tschaid, I have already had my truck at the dyno and datalogged. Troyer has all this information at his office. It was all done over 2 months ago.
If there was something else they needed from me they should have called. The only times I have spoken to them is when I call, they have never contacted me with the statis of my corrections. I have done everything they have asked for except drive 10 hours to their dyno and pay for their dyno time to fix this problem. If Im going to have to pay someone to tune my truck again it will be my local dyno shop this time.

Crafter-
Define bad engine knock if you could? Are you meaning detonation or actual engine knock? Is it only at WOT? As for fuel economy, surely you didn't seriously expect to see an improvement did you? I know some claim to get an extra 1 or 2 mpg but I don't think the majority of people expect or get this. (I may be mistaken) As for your comment that you don't think it's fair that you should have to wait for all of the other paying customers that have placed orders after you placed yours I do not agree. You received your tunes and they seemed to be working for the most part to your liking although you had some issues. After completing the data logging and dyno runs you submitted this information 2 months ago you say. From the sound of your posts your truck is not inoperable and you continue to use it and are not stranded so why is it hard to see that everyone else that has placed orders or submitted there data logging can't be serviced in that order before they get to yours? While I can understand and sympathize with you on shelling out your hard earned money and still having some issues, you do need to give them the time to get through all of the new orders, other customers that have turned in data logging before you, etc before they can get with you, that being said I would hope that they had some way of escalating issues that result with a truck being inoperable etc., but like I said it sounds like you are still getting around in yours currently.

02xlt, so what do I have to do, be stranded be the roadside before I can expect to get service. That is a bunch of bull. So what you are saying is as long as he has new orders coming in I should have to wait to get mine corrected, even though he has collected my money. That is poor business. So how long would you wait? They wont even give me a timeframe of when to expect it to be done except "when they get a chance". I understand everybody is busy these days but all I am asking for is what I paid for, the correct tunes for my truck. And no I didnt buy tunes that seem to work for the most part, I thought I was buying tune that WORKED. And if there are other datalogs that came in before mine that havent been work on yet I feel even worse for those guys.

I guarantee you that Mike and crew have NO desire for you to spend 10 hours driving to his shop just so they can charge you for dyno time...GUARANTEED!!
If you have a legitimate issue and his tuning is the cause he will be able to resolve it provided you supply the proper data logging information...There is a requirement regarding dyno information in your CPW's as to the format he asks for. Make sure he has it in that form and I assure you that any issues will be resolved...

What about all the other people that have placed orders and payed money after you had been sent your tunes? You don't think they deserve to get there tunes before you get your modified tunes back? I hear you about wanting your tunes without any issues. I would want the same thing and would be just as frustrated as you!

Marc, Mike told me if I was willing to drive down there all I would have to do is pay for the dyno time and not the programming changes. If there is something I gave them that isnt in the proper format they should have said something. But it has been over 2 months and not a word.
02xlt, I am driving my truck because it is my company vehicle. I have a 2006 f150 Lariat with about 19,000 miles on it now. The knock is between 2-3000 rpm. I dont know what kind of order there should be but they should be able to give some kind of timeframe. And remember we are talking months not days or weeks.
All I can say is that other people who are in the market to buy mods for their truck right now should know the pains some others are going through before they spend their money.
