hey all. i have the edge programmer for my 06 f150 with the 4.6. well they finally released the tune for my particular hex code after having an expensive paperweight for about 4 months and im pretty darn happy about it. it seems well worth the wait my question fo ryou guys is, the default program is for 3.73 gears and a different tire size than what i have. if i want to run the level 2 tune and i go to custom tune so that i can add the correct gear ratio and tire size do i have to retune everything or can i just change the tire size and gear ration and still benefit from the level 2 tune? not sure if that made sense but ill leave it at that. and if i need to clarify later i will.

 

I think if youy go in and tell it to load previous settings and then look at the gears. They should be correct. If you want to change the gear and tire it will have to reprogam the truck. The only thing that will change in the tune is the gears and tire. You will still have level two in there it will now just add the correct info.

I would go and tell it to load previous settings and see what you get. If it come up with the correct stuff don't reprogram.

 

well i liked the level 2 tune but it was showing 3.73, gears and a smaller tire diameter. so i was wanting to run the level 2 settings but set the ratio and tire size to the correct numbers. so if i select level 2 tune the select yes under the custom tune and change only the tire and gear ratio, it will actually load the level 2 tune plus the correct tire and gear ratio correct?

i also noticed i could change the timing in .25 degree changes. if i changed the timing say by .50 degrees it would change the timing a half degree OVER what the initial setting for the default level 2 would originally be correct?

It is my understanding that when you go into custom settings and you adjust certain parameters, only those parameters you adjusted will change. The other aspects of the tune will remain the same as the stock level tune for that level. So say you go into a custom tune for Level II and only change tire size and gear ratio, everything else would remain the same as if you didn't go into the custom setting and just remain the stock Level II program. I hope that just made sense and is correct.

 

that makes sense. however im still not clear on one thing. say if the stock tune for the level 2 is 3 degrees ( just throwing a number out there) and i change it in the custom tune to 1 degree. will it actually retard the timing or will it add that 1 degree on top of what the level 2 setting would be. effectively adding 4 degrees timing ( 3 plus 1 that i set it at)

 

okie...that I cannot tell you for sure but would be very useful information to have. Hopefully someone else will be able to clear it up for both of us. Sorry I couldn't help more.

 

I think you are on the right track with the timing. However you should not adjust it unless you were using a higher octane. You can added one degree for every two octane changes (87 to 89 1 degree of timing).

 

As I recall, when changing timing, you are adding to or taking away from what Edge has in their canned program. So if you want to bump timing up, you hit the up arrow till you have the amount of increase you desire, to reduce you hit the down arrow. When you get the number by which you wish to modify the canned program, you hit enter.

 

How do you find out your hex code of your truck?

 

Follow the instructions on how to hook up the edge to your truck, it will show you the first time you do that.

If you go into the settings in your EDGE and look at the diagnostics, you can pull up your hex code.

try updating your programmer. they recently released programs for a few different hex codes
