Dyno Day Shame

We had Vaders truck strapped on the dyno and hooked up ready to make the first pull. With the excessive dirt and water stains under the hood, and all the red clay residue all over the place, even staining the hood liner pad, we decided to pull the MAF and check a few things out. There had been water inside the MAF receptacle and there was mud residue in and on the MAF itself. We cleaned that and then started checking over the rest of the truck. It still had a lot of dirt on and above the rear differencal which would have no doubt fallen into the dyno drum during the pull.
Then after looking around a little more throughly in the engine compartment, Neil pulled the transmission dip stick only to find that the tube been packed full of mud. The bottom end of the dipstick actually had many large dirt particles on it when we removed it.
That is when it was decided that we were not going to dyno the truck as there could have been damage from the falling dirt to the dyno equipment, and we felt that we should not take the truck to the rev limiter with the dirt in the transmission pan.
Imagine if it would have been your equipment and vehicle...
Vader I enjoyed meeting you and hope that we can eventually meet again under better circumstances. You really do have a beautiful truck..:o

Jim, that sucks BIG TIME.....that long azz drive just to turn around and go home. I feel for ya. BUT, i'm not sure I would be so worried, I wasn't there, I didn't see it so I may be talking out my azz, but I can't imagine much damage was done, since you've been driving it and have no running issues. I think it's smart to have the tranny flushed, clean the intake and maybe get an oil and filter change. Ask them to save the old oil for you, so you can see if it has any dirt in it. If Jopsiah is still running his truck, I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about. That kid's crazy...
I've fixed a lot of motors that came up off the bottom of the bay or ocean and they still run great today. True, it's not mud, but salt water can wreak some major havoc on an engine. I think Mike was just being cautious, as I would've been myself. He seen a potential hazard and didn't want to chance doing any damage to your engine. For that, I would be thankfull....I can't wait to get my Troyer tuned XCal.
Have fun at the beach, get that truck cleaned up, change all the fluids and enjoy it...No way in hell, you're backing out of Paragon. I'll come pick you up if I have to.
EDIT..I just read MARC's reply.......I thought you said you cleaned that thng before we went to lunch??
So it seems it was MORE of a concern for the dyno equipment than it was your truck. See, don't you fell better now? I do!!

Man I think I have read over this post at least 5 times...and it pains me to read it!... man I was hopeing to see some good numbers from your truck, well maybe you can make it to the next dyno day
I hope to make it as well
Well just got back from Jiffy Lube. They are the only place open around here.
I had them flush the tranny fro $90 bucks. I'll get Ford to do it when I get back and drop the pan but at least now the fluid is clean....
The dipstick driving is dirtier than the dipstick in the transmission.

I'm leaving for the beach in the am. No Ford is open.
I wanted something done before the trip.
I said do you drop the pan and replace the filter?
"Huh? There is no transmission filter just oil and air."
Ok...just flush the tranny please...

Yikes.... well hopefully that will do until you get back. Auto zone probably has it and you can do it yourself in an hour. It's just a little bit messy. How far is the beach? How many miles on your truck?
Well you should be ok beings you drove to Troyers and back. Changing the fluid at the least, should help until you get back. I would change the trans filter and clean the dipstick and tube when you get back. I would take it to a shop with a good reputation and have them do a thorough change of all fluids. This way Ford won't know that it's been off road. Then i would lay underneath with a garden hose/power washer and wash off the whole underneath. A little trick i use is Westleys Bleach white in my fender wells and rinse. I do it all the time when i wash my truck. It cleans them up nice. You might want to do the whole underneath with that spray. I would also pull the wheels and rinse out the breaks as well. I would encourage alot of driving while it's raining. It will help get some of that hidden mud. Pay close attention to the taillight areas, they hold alot of mud. I would pull them and rinse behind it too.
it was really nice meetin you yesterday vader, im really sorry bout what happened but i know that mike was just concerned for that beautiful truck that u have. I wouldnt let it discourage u from offroading since its what u like doin. i know sooner or later with drag racing, im goin to break somethin if i keep pushin a lil farther and farther. its the price to pay to play the game. Now u definetly know what to double check after off roading , so same thing wont happen again im sure. if just not dynoing and fluid changes are all bad that come out of this man u paid a very small price to what could have happened to the truck. im sure ull have everything straightened out and be enjoyin offroading the truck very soon again

Anyone see a black 97 4x4 Flareside sitting around there anywhere? If so, that happens to be my old clunker with what happens to be a worn out motor in it
. Unfortunately now Mike's probably gonna have it a lot longer, than what was expected. Would have liked to been there to see all of the nice rides as well. Oh well, maby next time the old heap will be up and running.

I parked in front of it on Friday so nobody could steal it.....
Its very safe until you can get the repairs done...
