Edge...version 14...where's the power?

Someone had mentioned in one of the threads that they thought that the power was down in the latest update. I remember I replied that mine felt strong after the update, but the roads were snowcovered and I really couldn't get on it that much. Well the roads cleared up and I ran numerous 0-60 runs.....something is wrong......here's the story......

Well last Thursday I loaded the latest update...version (14). I also filled up with 93octane and set tuner for level 3 for the first time. I customized it by putting in the correct tire size and I upped the timing one point because of the 93 octane. I also adjusted the WOT shifting as follows: 1-2 and 2-3 at 5300rpm and 3-4 at 4600rpm. I set the rev limiter to 5600rpm. Several 0-60 runs got me a best time of 7.67, with most of them in the 7.7-7.8 range. Almost no wheel spin. Here is the problem!........before the update on level 2 (customized) with the octane (now timing) knocked down from 91 to 87 and WOT shifting as follows: 1-2 and 2-3 at 5100rpm and 3-4 at 4500rpm. I set the rev limiter to 5400rpm. Tire size was adjusted also (same as above and the Edge mph readout is correct for both scenarios). Many 0-60 runs got me a best of 7.62 with most of them in the 7.7-8.1 range. This was with "ALOT" of wheel spin.

So, what gives? (Old version, level 2, timing retarded, 87 octane) was basically just as fast as (New version, level 3, timing advanced, 93 octane). Level 2 also had the "fun" factor of being able to "roast" the tires from a dead stop. Level 3, now, I get a "chirp". Has anyone else noticed this.

Bill, if you get a chance to read this, is there anything different in the tunes for the latest update? If so, can I get changed back? If not, what do reccomend doing? I will run a few more tests........I will run level 2 with the same settings that I ran on the early version and compare results, but I would think that level 2 should have less performance then level 3?

Thanks

Since level 2 is for towing, it may be in the torque management. 1/4 mile times may show more difference. I know that when I ran a lev 3, it seemed to pull harder in the upper rpms. lev 2 seems stronger off the line.

Interesting information. Thanks.

Version 14 Woes

Glad I found this post. I was beginning to think I'm crazy here. I have not done ANY custom settings BTW.

I had version 12 I believe from the factory, ran the truck for a day (and only on Level 2) and was VERY impressed. I had a 1/2 tank of gas and didn't run 3.

So Friday afternoon I figure I will download any updates.....Man I wish I didn't. The performance is minimal at best. Honestly I now have filled up with 93 and changed to Level 3 and I think it is less agressive than the ver. 12 Level 2!!! It SUCKS in my opinion and I am by no means impressed with this thing

I would like to change back to the Ver. 12, how can I do this???

Question for everyone here with EDGE:

If I use the "Restore Defaults" option will it revert back to the Version/Settings that were in it out of the box? My feelings are that it will not, and just revert back to Ver. 14 defaults..

I know this is some BS man - I think they could at least post ALL the versions and we the users could decide what we want to run....Feeling like I just wasted 300 beans+ here....WTF

Well, don't get me wrong..........I love this thing and I have no doubt that Bill will keep fine tuning this thing and adding options to make it even better. I just wanted to get this issue out there to see if others had felt this. Hopefully, if there is something to it, Bill will look into it for us. I have been nothing but impressed by the people at Edge, everyone I spoke with or contacted by email, or listened to on the radio (internet) has seemed like very decent people.

When I have time I will try level 2 since I have not tried it with the latest update (went straight to level 3). I have never run any 1/4 mile times.....just 0-60 times....maybe Expy03 is on to something, but if that's true....I'll be running level 2....I like the low end grunt. I don't find myself doing much over 80 around here.

No, I do really like the product a bunch! I was SO impressed with Ver. 12! I am just hoping sooner than later we can get rid of this 14 and move back into performance....I feel like my truck is running at stock besides the hard shifts.....

I actually like the fact that they are working on updates and adding features. They are doing it in pretty timely manner I might add. Seems like they're working hard over there. I be much more unimpressed if there wasn't updates and revisions.

If you think the Diablo and Xcal came out without needing updates and revisions you need to go over to the SCT or Diablo forums and look around. These trucks have so many different factory programs I am sure it is a ton of work keeping up for whoever is programming.

Are you gonna keep it or are you going to sell it?

I can see your point and as I stated, I've not had ANY problem with the EDGE, its just in my view, this programmer was and is STILL not ready to be released yet,
and i'm VERY picky about my truck being a ginny pig...I would rather put my money in a proven programmer......or should I say a proven program writer...

I agree, it does seem that the programmer is not yet ready for the consumer market. It just doesn't make since with all the updates the edge has. How many updates have their been just to cater to the '05-'06 models. I have worked to hard and saved up a lot of money for my truck to make a decision on a programmer as of yet, but leaning towards the xcal2.

I don't understand this thinking....at all.

I hope to see updates every day, for the next few months if possible.

I would be very disappointed in a tuner that came with one version, and that was it....never any improvements or tweaking?

Sounds boring and stale to me.

Well if your truck runs fine with a certain version why update at all? I am sure no update is going to add another 20 hp. I think updates are better for people who are having issies with current versions.

With the constant updating, it just seems like the initial buyers were acting as testers of the device. I can understand a few updates, but updates every day would point to a product that wasn't really ready for market at the time of it's release. You may be comfortable paying full price to test a product for them, others aren't.

Besides, not everyone has the time to download updates all the time. I'm sure it gets to be a hassle to remove the unit from the truck to install the updates.
