Programmer Differences

What is the difference between the 9100 and the Xcal1 and 2? I know that there is more user mods on the Xcals. Is it correct that they all provide the same performance benifits? I know that the 17** series are not up to par with the others. Thanks.

Hi.

.. and many, many others....

I have a 9100 - I'd get the same custom tunes if/when I upgrade to an Xcal2 (once SCT decides they will allow a trade-up program for loyal 9100 owners, or states unequivocally that it won't ever happen - I have asked a couple of times and am patiently awaiting a response )

Please use Search. Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Hi bjh,

If you'll make use of the SEARCH feature, you'll see that we've discussed that many times here, as it's one of the most basic questions that virtually everyone who comes here wants to know - so there are already many good posts that go over that - I haven't taken a look at the specific threads that Vic provided link for in his post, but I'm sure they should give you some good info.

Some basics -

To a certain extent, it matters what model year your *present* vehicle is - and by that I mean simply that if you have a 2004 or newer F-150, then you *have* to use either of the XCalibrators, as it has to be CAN-compatible. If you have a 1996-2003 F-150 (and I see that you list having a 2001 F-150), then you can use any of those 3 devices.

However, for anyone purchasing our custom tuning today, we strongly recommend using the XCalibrator 2, as it has the ability to work on all 1996 & newer FoMoCo vehicles, and has far more features & benefits - things like being upgradeable via firmware downloads from the Internet & numerous other aspects like datalogging & full enhanced-parameter diagnostics, the ability to be reprogrammed for your next vehicle when you trade in your 2001 on say, a 2006 or 2007 F-150 (or other FoMoCo vehicle) perhaps, modular design, etc. So hands down, the XCalibrator 2 is really the way to go. You can read up on each of these units at our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - when the home page loads, select "Products" and then go into the tuning section - each of those products is listed there in detail.

And if you'd like to really go over this in through detail, go over all the various considerations, features, benefits of each unit and your actual cost as a registered member of F-150 Online, etc., please give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over all of that with you - as you can probably imagine, it's far too much to type it all out here each time another person asks at this highly popular web site - we have new people coming here virtually every day asking the same basic questions, as of course just about everyone wants & needs to know the same basic information. So just give us a quick call to go over all the various considerations that go into which unit is going to be the best for you to use with your vehicle.
