X-Cal question
X-Cal question
So what are the *performance* differences betweent he Xcal and Xcal2?
I know they have different features.. what about gains?
Does Troyer Perf load the same Custom tune onto both modules?
I'd like to trade my 1714 up to a XCAL of Xcal2.... I just dont know which yet.

Hi.
They hold the same custom tuning - Xcal2 is just more feature-packed and firmware upgradeable.
In fact even the SCT6600 and SCT9100 ( older products) can provide the same custom tunes ( just not for newer CAN trucks )
No difference in 'gains' among the custom flash devices - BIG difference when compared to the 17xx devices
WOW - lookee that, I didn't ask you to Search - what's become of me ???
I'll fix that now - please use Search and you'll dig up all sorts of stuff on this topic
Awww, what the heck - here's one to chew on for starters
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ght=xcal+xcal2
[Q for Mike - for clarity - can you use Advantage 3.x (Mako) even for 6600 and 9100 applications - in other words is it backward compatible? - sorry if it's a dumb question - just curious - thanks]
Cheers

Hi khendrix2374,
As we have discussed many times here, there is no "performance" difference between hardware - what determines the performance is always the actual *tuning* - not the hardware used to deliver the tuning.
Now hardware-wise, hands down the XCalibrator 2 is the way to go thanks to it's many additional features, the datalogging & full enhanced-parameter diagnostics being among the most important, and the ability to adjust your tuning right on the device also being an important feature to some people.
If you don't care about any other capabilities and just want the cheapest way to get our Troyer Performance custom tuning in a flash device that will work on even the more modern CAN vehicles (like the 2004 & up F-150), then you can save a little bit of money by going with the original XCalibrator - to me, it's not enough to warrant not having the XCal2's features, but then you may feel differently about that!
Best of luck whatever you decide,

Hi Vic,
To answer your question on Mako, yes, it can load programs into the 6600 4-program chips, the 9300 original XCalibrator and the 9400 new XCalibrator 2, but not the 5500 single program chips or the 9100 custom Micro Tuners. For programming those devices, we use the pre-3.0x software version, which will of course continue to exist and be supported.
