Is it worth it???

I just recently put on 33 inch tires and noticed a pretty big drop in performance.
I already have a 1714 tune on there and was wondering if selling it and gettin a troyer xcal would be worth it or not???
Thanks for your help.

What data are you using to determine the "big" loss in performance...0-60 times, 1/4 mile, dyno? 33's should not decrease performance significantly.

Yes, an Xcal tuned by Troyer would be worth it

Just on feel lol, i never timed my truck before it and i just feel that i lost quite a bit of power over my old 275 tires (275 is the only number on the tires i remember).

A Troyer custom tuned XCal or XCal2 will give you approximately 50% more hp & torque over the 1714.

Go for it

HI Fx4Man2004,

Usually the answer is an unqualified yes.

Now Superchips Inc did make some further improvements to the newest 1714's that made them work a little bit letter, and in those, we're gaining about 35%-40% more performance in our custom tuning over what they get in those "standard" tuners. For example, where they gain maybe 8-10 Hp at the rear wheels on their 87 octane tuning, we're gaining at least 25 HP at the rear wheels on our 8 octane tuning. And of course, we make significantly more power in our premium gas tunes in those 5.4 3V F-150's

But the bottom line is, yes, we can get more power gains and better throttle response from those trucks compared to what the 1714 delivers - don't get me wrong, I do feel that the 1714 is the best of the "standard" tuning devices out there, and we had a hand in that tuning - but it's not going to do what our custom tuning can do, and does not go nearly as in depth into the tuning as well do - so the bottom lin is, yes, we do get a significantly better result with our Troyer Performance custom tuning over what the Superchips Inc stuff delivers - it's simply the difference between "standard" tuning in an "off-the-shelf" product (of which Superchips is the best) versus our in-depth custom tuning, that goes into much more detail - so it's perfectly natural that we get a significantly better result.

In the final analysis, only you can really decide if it's worth it to you to sell that 1714 and go with our custom tuning - or whether you want to just keep using the 1714 and put that money in to other types of modifications, like our underdrive pulleys & electric fan conversion kits, for example.

Just some food for thought, & best of luck whatever you decide!

The XCal2 and the XCal will hold the same tunes, no difference there, same performance. The difference is the XCal2 reads DTC codes, datalogs, has analog inputs so you could hook up a wideband A/F recorder and stuff like that.

Well, there is NO difference in terms of the tuning - meaning how much performance we can get out of the vehicle. That is going to be the same whether we use the 9300 or the 9400.

However, the 9400 has Soooo many features that the 9300 doesn't, like the LCD screen, the built-n Diagnostics (read & clear DTC codes), and of course, it's built-in high-speed datalogging capabilities, and it's USB connectivity, Internet firmware downloads. And then there's it's modular design, so it can take the additional accessories that are being designed for it right now, like a large on-dash separate touch-screen coming out by year's end & other things.

The bottom line is, with your discount from us since you are a registered member here, I'd say to just go with the XCal 2 - you'll see *so* glad you did - "trust me" - as the typical used car salesman would say.

Best of luck whatever you decide,
