Newbie chip question
I tend to agree, in part, Jersey.
But some of us find this stuff fascinating. Interesting. And want to go beyond generic, chase your tail, answers. Facts. Backed up with numbers. Beyond percentages, that are often given. Not that that is not good info, but hard increases, or decreases, or even evens.
Unbiased info. True comparisions. It's just cool stuff, man.
I enjoy reading, and more importantly learning, from hearing all sides. Hearing ALL sides is the best way to form an opinion and make a decision. Truth has no foundation when there is no bad to go along with the good.
I don't think this comparison will decide "best". Cause like you said, sales, service, and customer relations plays a big part in helping us decide purchases. But wouldn't you agree that you'd at least like to be as informed as possible when deciding?
Really, just how much can one expect to get from a $500 purchase for a $30k truck that a company has invested millions in design and engineering?
This is fantastic site to learn more about our trucks. And I enjoy reading everyones opinions.
Oh yeah, had a wife for a long time. And argueing here is MUCH more fun.

I think we should do dyno run on same truck also, that would be better idea, throw truck on dyno with one tune, then throw same truck back on with another. high_lander is still a little ways away from me so we may have to look at our calenders to work something out.

alright guys....everyone have their own opinon. Anyways..Superchips_Distributor and many of you guys are behind the product and support it. I will research these more but theres a good chance i will get a troyer in the near future. thanks
EXX,
That is a great offer!
I wish I was still down your way.
The Idea of putting both tunes on one truck is the only real way to do it.
No two trucks are alike.
I will be more impressed by the dyno #'s than a track time.
Just copy the dyno charts and post them here so everyone can see which one is best.
Also a quick question, have you ever run one of mikes tunes??
I'm not trying to start anything here, just a question.
Thanks,
Eddie

No, ive never run the troyer tune, but I know theres only so much one can do and Im sure that superchips has done everything that can be done to produce more from these trucks safely. Just guessing Id say the track is where a custom tune stands to shine as he can put a tune to hold the gears longer which in and of itself may produce a slight faster time. The 91 performance tune on the superchips 1745 shifts a little earlier than it needs to in a race but then again superchips has safety in mind and even with the 1745 you are able to raise the shift point if youd like essentially applying a custom tune yourself.
HEY fun thread -------
I will post my seat of the pants impressions when I load my Xcal2 in place of my Edge programmer maybe two weeks or so......
I appreciate the numbers and those of you who understand it
My baseline is my son's 02 Altima 3.5 dohc - he spanks me but the margin has decreased a lot

Like I said.....good customer support, pleasent to speak with, answers questions very professionaly....I'm sticking with Troyer and I don't believe that makes me a "crony", I'm just a satisfied customer
"Everyone that has the Xcal 2 will say it's the best and exx will swear his is just as good....so where does that leave us?"
George, everyone wants to "feel good" about their purchases. Now, for those of us reading their notes, we have to decide if their results are real or are they just wanting to believe it so much they give a good review.
Some of us are more like scientists. Some more like preachers.
I like to take note of both.

.
The Easiest AND most Accurate way would be for me to offer Troyer ,
Superchips , and Diablosport the use of my truck to run on the same dyno
and print the sheets for posting here .
Each organization will be able to showcase their product and the strongest
points of each .
I know superchips and diablosport principals and would have the ability to
offer all a safe from harm document to protect their products and integrity
Same truck (1100 miles) , same dyno , same temps and settings . As
accurate R&D data as I can produce .

H345, I'd guess that each of those competitors, and others, have done exactly that. Not with YOUR truck, but with a variety of other vehicles and tunes.
Would be interesting for a party with no connections to execute the "test". i.e. Consumer Reports.
Does anyone know if such a test has been conducted?

Hi J;
Anybody BUT Consumer's Reports... PLEASE!
These are the same bunch of Nader-thals who concluded bicycles were unsafe because if you stopped on one, you'd fall over.
If they had their way, every consumer product would be wrapped in Nerf foam and made to be too big to swallow, with a warning label festooned on every available surface - and priced beyond reach. They should stick to testing toasters. (I heard they do acceleration runs by dropping chit off a cliff ).
Case in point: They had a comparo of full-size pickups a few years ago - Ford, Chebby, TOY-yoda and Doodge. The Ford was razzed for too high a liftover height on the bed rails. Guess they forgot there was a tailgate
And they showed this pencilneck with toothpick arms trying to lift a toolbox - one handed. Ford, sure listened - they made that bed rail even higher in 2004. They did call the Dodge crap - at least they got that one right
Any other suitably 'impartial' testing organizations out there? How about Car & Driver? Patrick Bedard or Brock Yates get my vote! CD's most important metric: # of cases of Longnecks (or kegs) that will fit. Yee-ha.
Cheers

I agree, Vic. Just an example I figured most of us could relate to. And the only one I could think of at the moment.
Say, fill me in the Grog thang. What's it mean?
I just assumed by MGD you were a Miller fan. What did I miss?

Ahh.........I've read through that particular thread more than once. Never put 2 and 2 together. Now your references to cave men and neanderthals make sense, Grog.
And to think, I was hoping to hear something funny. Man, that ain't funny.
