X-cal2 programmed by Troyer is the best option. Call them!

Id save some money and get the superchips or the hypertech. Both superchips and hypertech have highly educated engineers designing and developing their products and Im absolutely positive that they know what theyre doing and are no slouches when it comes to their tuning of these vehicles. They tune all types of vehicles to get the best performance out of them. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The xcal will give you a little more versatility but if you really want versatility start with a crate motor, if that. Its actually easier to talk the wife into that because you can get her involved tell her she gets to pick the kinda truck or car that you drop the motor in. Worked fer me

Devin4X4, troll around the “chips & programmers” forum and read up on the XCal2 because that’s the one you want. The little bit of money you’d save getting a lesser programmer, will surely be a waste of money in the long run. The Troyer custom tuned XCal2 is the *number one bang for the buck mod* that’s the bottom line, no exceptions

Look man, Im just trying to help you make the best decision you can, I dont know if you have kids or if you actually take your truck to the drags or what your situation is or why you want to reprogram your truck. Im telling you I am at the drags every weekend and two trucks one with a superchips high performance tune and one with whatever custom tune jpdumba$$ has will perform exactly the same. Now thats not to say that someone cant take an xcal and put a custom tune very specific to the exact track whether it be 1/8 or 1/4 and conditions as far as what type of weather or what not and maybe or very possibly make that truck take the superchip truck by a very very narrow margin, because Im sure thats entirely possible. But do you drag your truck for a living? Does your kids college savings depend on that narrow margin? Because if not I know I would have a hard time justifying even a 20 dollar price difference, I mean why wouldnt I buy the product that is even just 20 dollars less that is designed and developed by a team of highly educated engineers? Now if you do not plan on racing your f150 for a living and supporting your family with your earnings from racing other f150s I would advise that the extra versatility you may get with a more expensive programmer and custom tuning may very well NOT be worth it. The Superchips 1715 or Hypertech programmer will be more than enough for your application and if anyone tells you different theyre trying to sell you something. And on another note even if you do not plan on racing your f150 for a living and just want the most versatile product available then check out the xcal.

EXX -
How about the data logging and updating your program through Troyer / xcal - invaluable if you plan more mods..........

By the way if I wanted sermon I'd go to church.

How about if you dont want to read the post dont read it. I dont work for troyer performance nor am I some weirdo like jpdidadeo so I can give this guy an honest opinion like the superchips or the hypertech really is the best option which is what the guy came to the message board for. These products produce I would bet the exact same horsepower as an xcal with a custom tune for less cost. And if youre too simple minded to handle more than one sentence of debate than this datalogging you speak of is definately way outta yer league dude so I would definately not recommend the xcal for you lonewolf.

Just a bad modus operandi!

You are pretty much rude and offensive, and that is a fact! State your opinion and try not to be a jack a$$!

jeez what with exx I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you do some searching (it wont take much) there are alot of people who have switched from the "generic programmer" to the xcal2 with troyer tunes and said there was a huge diff. Fuel grades are also different wherever you go so you can set it up to how you want it.

I'm going with the Xcal2 because of the different tunes I can get out of it. I don't have kids college funds to worry about so while cost was a factor it wasn't the only factor. Search around and read all the posts you can to get the info you need.

As for EXX, he's just posting a different point of view. Not everyone has to love the same programmer. Different POV will only help you to have more info and be able to make a better choice. If you don't like his posts, don't read em.

wheelerfreak;

Different points of view are always welcome, and is what makes these forums so interesting.

However, expressing those views while calling your fellow members simple-minded, wierdos and dumbasses, is inappropriate, ill-advised, plain rude, and demonstrates your extemely bad manners.

exx - your ignorance is simply astounding, both for lack of product knowledge and lack of tact. Clean it up, please.

As for Devin4x4's original question: Xcal2 with Mike's custom tuning is clearly your best choice. Don't forget your F150online discount (gotta call them for that).

From personal experience - I've had both a generic tuner (1715) and custom (9100) - no comparison, both in performance and flexibility.

Ahhh - what "Ignore Lists" were made for... G'bye exx...

'Nuff said.

Vic

You made a small mistake, you have to CALL to get the discount. Just give them a call, tell them you ordered over the web by mistake and you are an f150online member. They'll take care of you.
