Victories and Defeats for Neal (Part 3)
Hi Superexpo,
I'm afraid my unescorted high-speed antics are mostly over. Unless I'm able to get together with a friend who is "on the job" so we can do it together, I don't do top speed runs on public roadways anymore. Maybe the occasional stoplight encouter, or perhaps just a quick spurt up to flirt with triple-digits and then right back down again, that's about all I'll do these days.
Neal, on the other hand, hasn't aged yet, so he'll go at the drop of a slight nod.
Tripled the traffic fines, eh? Ouch! I lived in Salina for a while, long ago. Boiling-hot summers, blizzard-wicked cold winters, and very flat, which just begs for reasonable cruising speeds.
Speaking of speeds, what kind of speed limits do you have there in Kansas now on the Interstate?

Mike,
On the turnpikes the speed limit is 75mph, on highway 70 and all other major four lanes it is 70mph. Good secondary two lanes are all 65mph. Not so bad is it. I always said if we could combine Jan & Feb into July and Aug we would have the perfect climate. It is beautiful in spring and fall. Spent the summer in Alaska so I missed July and August this year.
Am interested in the chip for the 6.8l V10. Did you at one time tell me that you had a dual chip for low and prem gas. I don't know where I heard that but it must of been here. I am interested in more torque and not so much speed. I pull a 10,000 lb trailer with my F250 SD. I would like the power for pulling and normal driving would be with standard gas.
Email me is you get a chance.

Hi Superexpo,
You've got great speed limits out there, much better than we have here in Virginia. We get, at best, a few stretches of Interstate with a 65 mpg limit, everything else is 55 mph or below. Very unrealistic considering the roads. Before the double-nickel was enacted in what, 1975 or so, we had 70-75 mph speed limits on our Interstates.
Yes, we do offer a multi-program Superchip Flip Chip for any of these Fords, so sure, we can do a multi-octane setup if you like, there are a number of F-truck owners doing exactly that. They'll use the premium gas side when towing, when they want the added power, and the 87 octane side when not towing.
Please feel free to drop us an email or a quick call, & we'll be more than happy to go over all the details & answer any questions you may have.
10K lbs. is a pretty serious load for the V-10's, even though it's well within the rated capacity, performance really takes a hit at that weight. You're absolutely right, torque is the key to towing performance, and yes, the Superchip will in fact increase torque *all* the time, at any throttle position from 1000 rpm on up.
Talk to you soon,

HI!... Well guys, I know it's been a while but I got two more "VICTIMS" this weekend.
1ST - Was a guy about 40'ish in a suit. He was driving a brand new 2002, CADILAC STS, 300H.P NORTHSTAR, V-8, AUTO.
We were behind some traffic stuck at a red light. I was behind him. We were in the left lane. The light turne green and the traffic proceeded forward. There was a slow moving transport truck in the right lane. As soon as the STS cleared the SEMI, he punched it and changed lanes. I followed. As soon as I cleared the left lane traffic, I merged back in right away. The STS got stuck behind some slower cars in the right lane and was forced to merge into the left lane behind me. Well about a mile down the expressway I got stuck at a red light in the left lane. The STS was right behind me and changed into the right lane and got next to me. I could see out of the corner of my eye that he was checking my truck out. Well the light turned green and I left normally. The STS floored it! I then punched it and immediatly pulled a full truck and a half on him up to 40mph. As soon as I hit 2ND gear 'HARD", I pulled another half truck on him. The top of 2ND gear I had him by about 3 full truck lengths. This guy would'nt give up! As I got into overdrive I started pulling away from him and he shut it down. I ended up beating him by about 4 truck lengths in total. About 5 miles down the expressway I got onto my off ramp and got stuck at a red light. The STS got next to me in the right turning lane. I looked over at him and this guy looked "PISSED'!!!!!!!! LOL! I love it!LOL!
2ND - Was a young kid in DADDY's "90's" BONNEVILLE SSEI, 3.8 SUPERCHARGED, AUTO.
This kit saw me racing the STS and figured he would give me a try. At about 100MPH this kid got right on my a$$! I jumped on it and took off from him right away. I got up to about 130mph and he was so far back it was'nt even funny. As I got on my offramp exit, this kit blew by me! What an idiot. I guess when some people get beat the only way they can deal with it is to blow by you at wide open when you've already slowed right down!LOL!

Hi Neal,
The STS isn't very quick off the line, as the Northstar is weak down low, but it sure can pull once it's got a few rpms on the clock, they will do well over 150+ mph in stock trim. You're lucky he didn't blow by you on the big end with as big a hole as your F-150 punches thru the air.
No wonder that guy wasn't happy, you just spanked his nice new 300 hp Caddy in, of all things, a PICKUP TRUCK!
Actually, it sounds like he stayed fairly close the whole way, which is what I would expect from that Northstar, once the revs are up they aren't slouches. Good kill!
However, that ID-10-T in the Bonneville is another matter, he was on your @ss at 100 mph?!? That is stupid behavior, the kind that gets people killed. It only takes one of those to change many lives for the worse. Steer clear of that clown.

HI!... Well guys I had two races last night. I got one "VICTIM" and then I became someone's "VICTIM"!LOL!
1ST - Was two young kids in a "2000", F-150 XLT, EC, SB, SS, 5.4, AUTO. They were leaving a few stoplights pretty fast so I figured I'd go play with them. Well we got up to a red light. He was in the left lane and I was in the right. Now from experience, I know this particular intersection is very slippery for my truck, so my launch had to be right on. Well the light turned green and the kids stomped it, right off the line. Their truck could'nt even spin the tires!LOL! They got about 4 truck lengths ahead of me before I started to move. I just left normal (nowing that I could catch them easily) and when I got up to about 20 mph, I stomped on it. The time I got close to the top of my 2ND gear, I had already caught him and let off slightly to look the passenger in his face. I then started pulsing the throttle to just jump in front of him and then back next to him. He was still floored!LOL! I then shifted into 3RD gear and walked away from him. At the next light he got next to me behind traffic and signalled me to roll down my window. The driver yelled over "HOW THE HELL DID YOU CATCH ME WITH THAT MUCH OF A LEAD ON YOU?" I then said very calmly, pointing to my truck. "330H.P" Then pointed to his truck and said "260H.P". He just looked at me with a weird look on his face. My light turned and I took off!
2ND - Well a bunch of us were hangin out in our usual weekend parking lot when this nice young kid in a CAMARO drove in and started talking to us. It seems that he had just bought the car used a few weeks before and is just starting to get into hot rodding. Well he's got a "97" CAMARO Z-28, 5.7L, 3.55 GEARS, POSI, AUTO, and it sounded like he had a performance exhaust on it from the previous owner. We wer'nt sure but we thought it also had a shift kit of some kind in it too, because it got a really hard 2ND gear chirp. Well he was curious on what this car would run in the 1/4 mile. I told him because of it being an AUTO that most likely it would go about 13.9 to 14.4 e.t in the 1/4. He wanted to race my buddy with a "2001" SVT, COBRA, 5-SPEED, but my buddy had never had a manual car and was still learning, so he did'nt want to race. So of coarse everybody was trying to get me to race him. After a while I said "YES". I told the kid that it would most likely be a close race up till the top of my 2ND gear and then he would pull on me from there. I figured about a 2 car win. Now just to let you guys know, I went into this KNOWING I was going to loose. I just was curious to see how much by. Well we all went out to the local STREET RACING spot, and set up. GET ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, GOOOOO!!!!!!!! I spun really bad off the start and hit my 1ST gear rev limiter twice. He left with his traction control on! Well after spinning for about 15 feet I grabbed hard and took off. The top of my 1ST gear I caught him and we were even. I hit 2ND gear and just at the top of it he started slowly pulling on me. I hit 3RD and he pulled two cars on my right away and then we hit the finish line. Now I know what the LIGHTNING guys mean when they say these CAMARO's really pull hard at high speeds. DAM!!!! I need a supercharger!LOL!

Hi Neal,
Actually, you did very well to stay that close to that '97 F-body, if it had been a 1998 or newer LS1, it wouldn't have been that close, as they are underrated a bit from the factory, and most can rip off 13.7's bone-stock with the automatics, and about 2 tenths quicker with the 6-speeds. So all in all, you did very well!
I can't wait until we've got your truck in it's next mechanical configuration & it's tuned for everything, it's going to be very interesting to see just how it runs with enough fuel injector in it.
Speaking of blowers (how's that for a terrible segue), we're going to be a test bed for the 166 Eaton blower that was made for an overseas GM application, JDM Engineering is now doing the R&D as they arrived this morning. My plan is to put the 166 on my Lightning, and then put my Lightning original blower on our 5.4 ORP F-150, assuming there will be enough 166's to begin with.
All the current 166 units are already spoken for, or I'd have one right now, darnit.
We'll be lucky to get this R&D'd and sorted out over the winter, time will tell.............
Have fun Neal,

HI!... MIKE : Ya I was'nt very impressed by that particulat Z-28. I figured he would of beat me by a hell of a lot more than that. Well I'll find out how close of a race it will be with both of us getting good traction. This guy with the Z-28 is coming up with me this SAT to SPARTA DRAGWAY to run.lol!
By the way MIKE, I had last week off on vacation and I spent most of it working on the truck. I installed a battery relcation kit. It mounts my OPTIMA battery up under the truck on the passenger side right behind the cab. I also fabricated up my own traction bars and installed them as well. I also removed the completeA/C system from the truck and replaced it with a NON A/C belt tensioner and shorter belt.
I figured this would put my truck into the high 14.30's. Well I went to SPARTA DRAGWAY last SAT and it sucked! The temps were great at about 55-60 degree's, no rain, slightly cloudy, low humidity. But the one bad thing was the average 45KPH head wind up the track!!!!!!!! It gusted up to 60KPH every once in a while. Things were blowing around in the pitts all day. I walked around the pitts to see how the wind was effecting other people's times and the average was a 4-5 tenth loss over their usual times. I met a guy that was running a "2000" MUSTANG GT with some mods and he could only muster one 14.60E.T and the rest of his runs were in the14.70 - 14.80 range. That's the exact same times I was running with all the wind. He showed me his time slips from the night before and the last SAT and he was running very consistant 14.36 - 14.42's. So I asked him if he would run me a few times to get a comparison. Everytime we ran he would redlight and get a full car length on me. My light would turn green and I would catch him by the top of my 1ST gear and we would stay even all the way down until about 50 feet from the end and he would pull me about 5 feet. Our times were almost identical! My 14.76 to his 14.75E.T. The problem was the trap speed. He would go over 95mph and I would always be stuck at 90mph. I even ran a 14.60 at 89mph and in the SPRING at the same track and NO WIND I ran a 14.52 at 94mph???????? I'm 8 hundreths slower but 5 MPH slower. It does'nt make sense. My short track times with the 14.60 and all the wind were my best to date. If I could hang with that MUSTANG all the way down plus catch him after he jumped me out of the hole, I figure and so did the MUSTANG owner that my truck should go 14.30's with no head wind. Well hopefully this SAT there will be NO WIND and can get my 14.30 E.T!lol!

Hi Neal,
With a big a hole as an F-150 punches thru the air, a 45 kph headwind (which converts to a 28 mph headwind) can easily slow you down that much.
You were lucky to run what you did with those kinds of headwinds; without them, you might have stayed with that Mustang on the big end for those last 5 feet he was pulling on you.
Congratulations on your latest changes!

HI!... Well guys "THE FREAK" went to the dragstrip this SATURDAY. It was at SPARTA DRAGWAY. This was the last day of racing before they close for WINTER. Temp was about 43-48 degree's, 5kph wind down the track (FOR ONCE LOL) and it was cloudy with the occasional spitting rain and can you beleive it?, SNOW!!!!!!! The track sucked! They would'nt spray down any VHT because it was the last day out. The 1ST couple runs, I made with my 27 inch tall slicks which give me a equivilent of a 4.56 gearing. Well the track just could'nt hold that much gear from my truck. I was launching from idle and at 1000RPM and was burning both rear tires for about 100 feet. I decided to take off the 27 inch slicks and put on a set of half bald stock GOODYEAR 275/60/R-17 radial tires. I figured this would cut my gear down a bit, back to 4.10 gearing. Well it helped a bit but not much!. I had the psi set at about 25psi in the 30 inch tall GOODYEAR's and they still spun for a while. At that time the best 60 foot I could get was 2.5!!!! My truck ALWAYS gets a 60 foot of 2.0 flat. So I played with tire preasure's a bit and got some of my best 60 foots at around 20 PSI. But I was still pulling 2.3 - 2.4's!!!!!!!!! I decided the next time up that I was going to do about a 35 second burnout to really heat up the tires because the track was SO cold on the staring line. Well that run I got a 2.3 60 foot and still ran a 14.52E.T at 94.55MPH!!!!! That's almost 1 MPH faster than my best time of 14.52E.T last SPRING at 93.73MPH. I also picked up close to 1 MPH in my 1/8th mile times as well. Just my 60 foots SUCKED because of the track conditions. I figure if I could of got my usual 60 foot times of 2.0 that I could of dropped 3 tenths off that time! That would of put me in the 14.20's!!!!!! That is with me leaving the starting line at 1/4 throttle and not going to full throttle till after I pass the 60 foot marker, and I still was spinning going into 2ND gear! It was VERY frustrating. So this WINTER I'm going to work on getting a set of 15x 10 inch rims to fit on the back and a set of MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREETS 28x 11.50's, a PRO-M MAF, HOLLEY 80MM TB, and a custom RAM AIR set-up I'm designing. That should put me in the 13's for sure, naturally asperated!!!!!! We'll find out in the SPRING I guess.
P.S : By the way there was a guy there that had a "2001" DAKOTA R/T, EC, AUTO. He had a K&N "COLD AIR" FIPK on it, put a shorter belt on to eliminate the power steering and A/C, and he was running a 100h.p NOS kit. He came back into the pitts with a very best time of the day of a 14.59E.T LOL!!!!!! I then came back into the pitts and he ran up to ask what I ran. He figure that my truck would be running around a low 16 second pass!LOL! I then told him I ran a 14.52E.T with burning the tires off half way through 1ST gear, AND I'm still naturally asperated!!!!LOL! That just pissed him off and he did'nt beleive me untill I showed him my timeslip! Even with NITROUS, a DODGE can't beat me!HA, HA, HA, HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol!

Hey all,
So I've been reading all these post and they all seem pretty good, I just have one question or two, My truck is a 2001 with the 5.4, I have the K&N filter kit and a dynomax muffler, I took my truck out to baytown, in texas and ran her down the track, my best time was a 15.82 with a bad light a 1.2 something, my question is that any good for my truck. If so or not what would be the best things to make her fly without supercharging it. Any help would be great, thanks!
Hey fast54Triton,Glad to here that, all my buds said it was slow, but some of there mustangs only ran low 14's so I told them to stick it- well about my truck its a 2001 single cab, short bed, with the 5.4L- o yeah its lowered 3 inches in the front and 5 in the back. Other then my other post thats all.
HI!... Well I got two more "VICTIMS" this week.
*1ST : Was a young kid in daddy's "2000" JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, V-8 360, AUTO, 4X2. I was sitting at a intersection, when I saw this kid go flying through the green light and down the street cutting people off. I turned and follwed him. I just hung back and followed him for a while. This kid was cutting everyone off and speeding bigtime. I followed him still but could'nt get next to hom at any lights because of slower traffic. This kid was lucky, he was getting every lead at every light! Then when the lights would turn green he would punch it. Well he made one light and I did'nt. But he got stuck at the next one about a 1/4 mile down the road. I could still see him, no problem. Well his light turned green 1ST and he was off, ***** to the wall! My light finally turned about 10 seconds later and I was off. The road about 1 mile ahead has a fork in it. The left lane goes onto the 401 highway ad the right goes back into town. He took the left lane. YAHOO!!!!!!! He was a good mile and a half in front of me. I went to full throttle! I got my truck up to 4400rpm in overdrive and that's all she had. That's about 135mph. I figure his truck would probably top out at 100-110mph, so I would eventually catch him. Well I saw him up ahead and I was catching up quick. He was obviously still to the boards!LOL! I went by him like he was standing still! After about 10 seconds after passing him I slowed down to the speed limit (60MPH) and just cruised. Well this kid figured now, that he was going to fly by me! ME! As soon as he got about 2 truck lengths from my bumper, I dropped it into 2ND gear and that was as far as he got!LOL! He was pissed because I could see in my rear veiw mirror that he was hiting his steering wheel!LOL!
I then took the next off ramp for my exit. Now this kid was right on my a$$ thinking he could out corner me now!NOT! I had just finished putting my front/rear sway bars back on that day earlier. Well I jumped on it in the corner and went through the long sweeping bend easily. The kid almost lost control of his JEEP about 4 times and finally gave up. FORD 2, MOPAR 0.
*2ND : Was last night. I was cruising around town, when I saw this nice looking truck up ahead. When I got closer it was a "2000" CHEVY SILVERADO, 5.3, AUTO, POSI. It had a nice paint job on it and some loud exhaust system. He also had a roll pan on it with racing stripes. It was white. The stripes were black. It looked to lowered about 3 inches all around. It was a styleside. Well he turned at the next light and so did I. Now this road is 3 lanes wide. I stayed in the far right. He stayed in the middle lane. This is a 70KPH zone and he was doing about 90KPH. I was right next to him, but back about half a truck length. I slowly started to pass him. He did nothing. As soon as my back bumper got to his front he could probably hear my exhaust and he started to even up. Well I was catching up on a slower car in my lane, so I gave it about 1/2 throttle and and indicated that I was going to change into the left lane. Well the two guys in the CHEVY did'nt like that and punched it! I drppoed the hammer and got in front of them with little effort. Well just then the light ahead changed to red and we both had to get on the brakes a bit hard. Now I'm in the middle lane and the CHEVY is in the left lane next to me. There was just a normal car in the right lane. I just kept looking forward, but I could tell the passenger was checking out my truck. I knew he could see my lit up AUTOMETER guages in my 3 "A" pillar guage pods. Well the light turned green and they punched it! I rolled out at 1/4 throttle for about 5 feet and then nailed it! The time I hit the top of 1ST gear,I already had 3 truck lengths on him. BANG! Nailed 2ND gear hard with a loud chirp and kept pulling on him. The top of 2ND gear I had about 6 truck lengths on him. I got about half way through 3RD gear before I shut it down. I had wasted enough gas on this slow truck already.
By that time I had about 10 truck lengths on him. I though CHEVY's were supposed to be fast? LOL!
At the next light he got into the far left turning lane and would'nt look over at me!LOL.

I BEAT A V6!
HI!... Well let me re-phrase that. I smoke a v6's a$$!!!!!! There's all these debates about modded v6 f-150's beating v8's. Well tonight I was returning a tool I had borrowed from a buddy and on the way back home I stopped at a red light. Well these two young punks in a F-150 4.2 V6, 5-SPEED got next to me and started revving their little engine. It sounded like CRAP! It had two big fart pipes sticking out the back with those MUSTANG GT "LOOK A LIKE" tailpipes, or should I say wheel barrow handles.lol! Well the light turned green and they took off. I left normal because of my licence situation!LOL! The road ahead goes up hill a bit and then there is a 90 degree right hand turn, which leads to about a one mile straight away and then another light. As these kids got to the turn, the driver stuck his hand out the sliding rear window and shot me the finger with his passenger hanging out the side window laughing and making faces. REAL mature! That was it, now I was pissed off. The hell with my licence!LOL! I caught up to them as they were exiting the turn. They jumped on it and I let loose the 5.4 fury!LOL! It was'nt a competition at all, what a slaughter! The time I jumped on it they were two truck lengths ahead of me. The time I shifted into 2 gear I was 2 in front of them and just kept on pulling. I won't say the speed but I shut it down about half way through overdrive. Put it this way I can hit 115MPH at the top od 3rd gear. I beat this guy by about 15-20 truck lengths. What a friggin joke. I stopped at the next red light. A little while later the kids pulled up next to me. They motioned to roll down my window. I did with my middle finger sticking up!LOL! I said to him "Don't play with the big dogs or you might get bit"!lol! The driver starting yelling at me that he had never had is a$$ whooped that bad by another F-150. He asked me my mods. I told him I was "STOCK" except for the exhaust. We all know that's not true but he did'nt!LOL! He told me he had : FLOWMASTER MUFFLER, JET CHIP, 3.73 GEARS, AND a k&N FIPK. What a joke! I hate to pick on a fellow FORDER but he asked for it.
