Dear Gaudenti,

Sure, as a very loose general guideline, the manuals lose about half of what the automatics do. For example, say on a Mustang GT, you lose about 30 hp or so in driveline losses with the manual. It's a bit more for bigger vehicles, of course, but that should give you a rough idea.

Dear Fast,

V-10's hanging out over at Ford-Diesel.com? They should be here!

Thanks very much for letting me know what they are reporting, that is very interesting. Do you have any idea if these are flywheel or rear wheel figures? I'm assuming it's rear wheel. Another point is the type of dyno they get run on. It has to be a chassis dyno of course, as an engine dyno that requires removal of the engine from the vehicle. But what I mean is, are they getting those numbers off of a Dynojet? If so, they won't be real accurate, as the V-10's weigh far more than the rollers of a Dynojet inertia dyno, so the load factoring isn't corrected properly, and that can certainly skew those figures.

Dear Fast,

Thanks, but I don't want to go stirring up anything over there. 230 hp at the rear wheels, from a V-10 that is rated at say 310 hp (and they vary depending on which body it's in, as the vans only get 275 hp at the flywheel, for example) might be a bit light, it should be more like 240 or so, so it doesn't sound *way* off, if it's for an automatic. Those 4R100's eat up some power turning them. SO it all depends on just what body it's in, as they are rated at anywhere from as low as 275 (Vans) to as high as 310 SAE Net at the flywheel. So that would give us anywhere from 200-210 to 240 or so for those automatics at the rear wheels. Based on that, those guys might not actually have anything to complain about!

I'm all for leaving sleeping dogs lie asleep, myself.

HI!... Well guys I got two more this weekend. A FORD and a DODGE. The first one was the FORD. It was a "99" or "2000" F-150 EC, SB, 4X4, 4.6, AUTO. He got next to me at a red light, after seeing me turn a corner in front of him and "get on it". I could see out of the corner of my eye that he was checking my truck over. He looked to be about 35-40 years old. He started to rev his engine. "MAN" the sound of the stock exhaust "SUCKS"! Well the light turned green and well, I opened a can of woopass on him BIGTIME! It was'nt even close! I beat him by about 15 truck lengths by the time I got bored and let off. Sorry to pick on a fellow FORDER but he asked for it.lol

The 2nd victim was a guy in a late "90's" DODGE EC, SB, 4X4, 318, AUTO. He cut me off big time on the expressway, when I went to pass his slow a$$! So we got up to the next light and I was behind him. Before the light it is a two lane road, but after the intersection there is about a 1/4 mile of two lane road and then it merges into one lane. Well the guy in the DODGE was getting ready to floor it so he could get in front of the guy that was on his right. (a late "80's" PONTIAC CELEBURTY). The light turned green and the DODGE punched it. What a joke! I was at just under half throttle and I kept having to let off so I did'nt smash into the back of him. When he finally got in front of the other car he changed lanes and kept it to the floor so I would'nt be able to get in front of him. That was his first mistake! As soon as he got his slow a$$ out of my way I punched it and quickly caught up and proceeded to blow by him very quickly. After about 30 seconds at full throttle I let off and slowed down to the speed limit.(80KPH) Well at the next light he was right on my a$$. When the light turned green I just left normaly and he was pissed! It is about 3 miles of straight road till the next light. This is wear this guy made his 2nd mistake. He decided he was goig to pass me and play "who has a higher top speed"! Well we all know who that is don't we! As soon as he got next to me (around 80kph) I manualy dropped it into 2nd gear (got a loud chirp) and really pulled away from him hard. When I got up to 100mph I stayed at that speed and let him catch up. Then I slowly sped up till he had no more. That turned out to be just over 100mph! So then I just hammered it and left him to rust just like all the other DODGES!lol

Good one, Dunbarton!

Neal doesn't cut 'em any slack up there on the streets of Windsor, does he?

Actually, Neal does have a good heart, just as long as you don't pull up beside him and want to race, as then it's kill time!

HI!... Well guys I finally got my truck back today after being at my dealers for 3 days. I brought it in for my cylinder head oil leak. Well there was no casting flaw in the block. They decided to put on a new ("2000") set of cylinder heads and including new camshafts and all the bells and whistles. Pretty much the heads came totally complete all they had to do was to put them on and install the valve cover. It ended up taking the mechanic 25.5 hours to do the job. All I can say is "WOW" what a difference! It feels like the truck has 50 more h.p than before! Tonight I took the 450lbs of sand bags out of the bed of my truck because the roads here are pretty dry now. On the hiway I can bang off 125mph like nothing! The only problem now is that I totally can't get any traction at all! From a dead start and I nail it, the truck burns the tires all the way through 1st and part of 2nd gear. I figure the cylinder with the partially blown head gasket had hardly no compression and that was where I was loosing my power. It feels like a totally different truck now. Does anyone know if they did anything different to the "2000" heads over the "99" ones?

Well I broke in the heads and cam good tonight. I was sitting at a red light tonight and noticed that the light behind me had turned green. Well a kid in a red late "90's" SUNFIRE was coming uo on me quick at about 70-80kph. Well when my light turned green he was about 5 - 6 car lengths behind me. I punched it and so did he. The time I got to the top of 1st gear, he was at my back bumper. When I got half way through 2nd I was pulling away from him. When I topped out in 2nd (130KPH) he was about 5 cars back. Got in to 3rd and I was gone! When are these kids in mommy's car going to learn not to mess with the "FREAK"!!!!!!lol

Hey Neal,

Man, I can't *wait* for warmer weather up there for you, so you can run it again at the strip and see what it will really do with the motor good & healthy! I'll bet you'll give Cableguy a good run, eh?

Glad you got it back so quick, and don't kill yourself trying to run 140 mph, you rascal!

HI!... Well guys I got two more CHEVY's tonight. The first one was a kid in daddy's "90's" CUTLASS SUPREME that kept trying to run me from light to light. He kept up to me till the top of 2nd gear because I massively spun my tires all the way through 1st and part of the way through 2nd. But as soon as I got traction I was gone.

The 2nd victim was a kid in a late "90's" CAVALIER. He wanted to run me from a light. (I did'nt know he wanted to race!) When the light turned green we both accelerated normaly, side by side. When we got to about 35-40kph he stomped on it. I was still in 1st gear and when I stomped on it, my tires broke loose and I started to go sideways. I held on to it (barely), still floored I shifted to 2nd and they still kept spinning about half way through 2nd. And yes I was still sideways a little bit! By this time he was about 3-4 car lengths in front of me. I kept into it and when I finally grabbed the road I started to pull on him real hard. The time I got into 3rd gear I had caught up to him and was starting to blow by him. When I finally got into overdrive he was about 10 cars behind me and decided to give up. Just like he should! I can't wait till some warmer weather gets here because my truck won't hook at all now with all this cold cement and salt residue everywhere.lol!

HI!... Well guys I raced a "99" - "2000" JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE today. It was a from a roll from a light at about 40kph. I stayed about 2 - 2.5 truck lengths on him the whole time till I got past 140kph and then I started to pull on him hard. That is when he gave up. I have raced these trucks before and always killed them. This one actually gave me a challenge. The "FREAK" was actually nervous for a bit! I think this guy might of had something done to it to keep up with me that well. But we did go at it at a roll, so that could be why he held on to me. If the roads were not icy and I could of gone full throttle from a dead stop then I would of yanked him out of the whole big time!LOL!

Hey Neal,

Do you think there's a chance that this latest Jeep might have been that one-year-only 5.9 Limited model that was so fast stock? That might be why it gave you such a hard time, as they tend to run sub-8 second 0-60 times dead stock.
