4.2 Chipped? Worth The $$
#47
Bill,
Are you a math teacher? You do such a great job with your little math lessons. By the way, I had a superchip and I can honestly say, it ain't gonna turn no six into a V8 killer. Also, with all of your number comparisons you forget to figure in your 3.08 gears vs. 3.55 gears. If your truck were even close in horsepower and torque, as you suggest, then the difference in gearing would hurt your mighty 5.4 killer. If you like your 4.2, I say that's great. Just don't come on here and suggest how mad us 5.4 owners are for spending the extra money. I suppose if anybody has the right to brag it would be the 4.6/manual owners. They have the extra horsepower with the minimal horsepower loss AND they don't have to run PREMIUM gas. And the price of the 4.6 isn't a lot more than the price of the superchip. All hail the 4.6/manual combo.LOL

2000regcab, the 4.6 manual stock is at 187. Unless he does some mods then he's still behind my 4.2 at 207.
3.08/3.55 = .868 so the 3.55 has a 13.2 percent advantage.
195/207 = .942 so my 4.2 has a 5.8 percent advantage.
13.2 - 5.8 = 7.4 percent advantage for a 5.4 with 3.55 unless you have taller tires than mine.

Even with 3.8% for bigger tires the 5.4L has the V6 beat.
Ohh and please show me one thread where a V6 beat a 5.4L

>>I suppose if a 5.4 were to line up with
>>Bill, he would jump out of his truck and
>>pull out his calculator and show em' how
>>bad he would beat em' if he were to race.
That's exactly what I would do because getting me killed or you killed is not worth it is it?

Haha this is funny, ok guys do I have to take out the hose? Bill, you can't just add Hp like that. It's as if you bought a bunch of performance products and just added the HP that they claim to give on the packaging. It doesn't work that way right? And 54, I get from 20 to 22 MPG on highway.
A 4x4 auto. 4.2L V6 SC will beat a 5.4 reg cab. 2WD Heck mine can beat a Ferrari Just kidding of course.
You know I don't care if my truck can or can not beat even a firefly! Its still a 4x4 truck. I'd like a superchip and 4.10s for off-road purposes.

now that I have read through all of the challenge let me add my two cents.
When I first started modifying vehichles I started with Hondas. One thing you learn quick is that *effiency* is the key to performance not engine size. In stock form we will always go for cubic inches, thats no secret. However, look at all the modifications, exhaust, chips, air intakes, gearing etal. All try to make a vehichle more efficient. Bill if your truck can do what it says that great. (That means there's hope for me)
As I have stated earlier my brother owns a 5.4 and its a strong engine. I have spent quite a bit of time behind the wheel of it and love it. But I love my v-6 too. remember bills v6 is now more *Efficient* than your 5.4. Despite the 1.2 litre difference it is very possible that he can out gun a 5.4. If not than explain why a Honda S2000 can do a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds with a 2.2 litre engine (no turbo) and why a corvette, camero, firebird, mustang, or prowler are slightly slower with a larger engine. It's because honda knows *effiency* is the key
Alas, I still own a v-6 and I still want more power from mine, so, if you have pertinent info let me know. I don't care if it can beat a 5.4. If I wanted to go fast I wouldn't have bought a truck and I certainly wouldn't have bought a 6 banger.
whats next "my daddy can beat up your daddy."
Good luck to all

I don't care if every vehicle on the road could beat me. I have never raced anyone in this truck. I got the 5.4 because I wanted the extra power for passing and just general everyday driving. If I really wanted to race, I would have bought a Lightning or Cobra or something like that. I just don't like listening to some guy talk a bunch of s#*t about how fast his six is just because he put chip in it. Did he put his truck on a dyno to get all of those hp numbers? I think not. Like I said before Bill, if you like the 4.2, GREAT. Just don't make statements about how mad the 5.4 owners are for spending the extra money and your truck will still beat them. YOU DON'T RACE, remember. Enjoy your truck. It's an F150, it's a great truck. Leave it at that.

Interesting thread.. I definatly didn't buy my truck for racing.. I was wondering though, with your logic would my SuperDuty with the 5.4L beat your chipped V6.. I have a 5sp tranny too so our tranny's are equal, also I have a 4.10LS rear..
5189lbs vs 4216lbs so only 18% difference.
The SD has larger tires (stock) than the F150 (stock) tires, so my effective rear end ratio is like an F150 3.73..
3.73 vs 3.08 is a 17% difference.. So overall we're about equal..
Well, you can't just add numbers up..
In the 'outrun' catagory: These truck 5sp's don't shift like sports cars.. So you'll loose alot of time shifting while the auto is pulling away!
Also you cant just go by 'peak' horsepower because your engine is not always at peak RPM.
Same goes for torque.. Your V6 chipped has less torque, and I would bet its peak torque is much higher in the RPM range than the 5.4L.
I've driven a F150 with the 5.4L and I own a Superduty with the 5.4L. The F150 is faster than me, and will outperform a chipped V6 F150 in every category including fuel costs. The V6 may get better mpg, but your paying more for 93 octane vs 87.
The V6 is a fine engine and has a place in the F150 lineup..
