Post Down the Road and off the line: Victorys and Defeats 2

I enjoy reading these but, multiple pages are a pain to load. Personally, I've only had two races, Dano and the Nun(who is still looking for me). So here is a reprint of my first race. It was lost in the great purge of pre 6/99 posts.

Well, I finally got caught up in this race stuff. Since my 99 5.4 is so new I have been babying it. But it had just gone over 1K and I was minding my own business when this Silverado pulled up beside me and was revving his engine. I was going to ignore it as usual but when the Chevy peeled out I saw something that made me take action or no one here would ever forgive me. It was the personalized license plate on the back of that truck, 'DANO'. I knew he would be loaded for bear and I had two things against me. First, my truck is completely stock, although as a reg cab shortbed 2wd, it's as light as you can get for it's 260 horses. (**This was a pre-Lightning post**) Secondly, we were downtown, 25 mph, traffic lights every block. But like I said, I had no choice. At the next light I glanced over, Dano looked kind of like Saddam Hussain only with a severe eye twitch. It was about then that he noticed my F150online sticker and little veins began to bulge out on his forehead. I had to let this guy know that I wasn't scared of him so I cracked the window just a bit and hollered out, "I'm Dunbarton!" We both started powerbraking waiting on the light and people walking down the sidewalks stop in their tracks and turn to look. The engines are screaming louder and louder, my hands are wet on the wheel, I just about can't take it anymore. What is taking so long? I glance to the corner and there is this kid with his thumb jabbed in the Crosswalk button and a big grin on his face. Immediately I sense movement and whip my head around in time to see 1-7-Z flash before my eyes. Yep, he got the jump on me. I went to the floor with my right and stayed there. I was doing what she'd do. the speedo was climbing like a bathroom scale with a fat lady trying to join the circus. After the second block I was closing on him. This happened on Sunday around noon. Down the road on the right was a church and the parking lot was across the street. Sure enough, the church is letting out. They are crossing right in front of us but, it was ok because they were Methodists. I was even with the Chevy and I knew he was mine for the taking when I glanced in the rearview and there was a black and grey Crown Vic with a blue flashing light. Well, I immediately shut her down and pulled over and that trooper was so close I thought I was towing him. First thing I said to him was "Hey, what about the other truck?". He said, "What other truck?" and fella's I swore right then that it was decaf from now on.

Cool

I'm with ya on the multiple pages Raoul.

Well to the story, I'll make it short since it was. I got to the a light this morning and a guy in a rx7 pulls up with a grin the size of Texas. Well I thought he just liked the truck but when the light turned green he nails the gas. Well It's time to let the supercharger loose. I catch up in no time and see he is slaming gears like we slamed beers at the Texas Rally. I proceed to put him to shame and I see a Corvette hooked to the bumper. I realize that now I'm doing about 95 and decide to slow down as the vet pulls up next to me and gives me the thumbs up. Made for a good start of the day and so I thought I would share it with yall.

Take care.

Thats awesome Mumbly. Wish I could say the same, but all the shovies around here are afraid to race. And the dodges aren't even in the same class and they know it. So I haven't had the opportunity yet. But since I am 4x4 I know better than to race any 4x2, at least till I get the supercharger!

Guys and Ladies,

This post is not the result of a race but my son's friend just bought a used '98 4x4 5.4 RC SB 5.4 auto, the lightest F150 and took me for a ride.

Well, that truck flat-out scats. With my mods of an Airaid and Superchip I sincerely believe I would be hard pressed to give him a good run. I know there is only an advertised 15 hp difference between his '98 5.4 and my '99 4.6 liter but it certainly feels like those 5.4s sandbagged their power somewhere ..... and the '99 and 2000s are 25 hp more!

HI!... Come on guys, am I the only one that keeps this thread going? 8-) Race people race!!! O.K., now that I have my h.p attack under control I will tell you guys about another CHEVY bowtie that I tied in a knot. Last night when I was coming home from work around 10:00p.m (from 7:00a.m) I was in a pissed off mood and was driving extremely fast. Well I stopped at a red light and just happened to look in my rearview mirror to see a car flying through traffic trying to catch up with me. Well I figured it was a cop for sure. It ended up being a young kid in a early 80's CUTLASS SUPREME.It had a v-8 probably a 305 or 307 that was souped up by the sound of it. It had true duel exhaust with FLOWMASTERS, nice set of drag rims and tires, and a very sharp paint job. He got on my left at the light and I could tell he was checking me and my truck out. He also probably noticed my CALVIN pissing on a CHEVY symbol as well.Well the light turned green and not being sure if he wanted to race or not I just left with about 1/4 throttle. He spun his tires for about 2 feet and then proceeded to pace head to head with me. Well my truck really hits 2nd gear kick down hard at about 70kph, so I kept excelerating very slowly up to that waiting for him to jump on it. Well right when I hit 70kph he jumped on it and I grabbed the shifter and dropped it into 2nd. (quicker kick down time) I immediatly jumped ahead of him and started pulling on him, until guess what? I forgot to put it back into 3rd gear and I nailed the rev limiter real hard twice. By this time he was only about a 1/4 car length from passing me until I finally got it into 3rd gear. Then I started to pull away from him real hard and kept going until I hit my top speed limiter. By the way this was a 50kph street we were doing this on. He never did catch me. If we were to go at it from a standing start I would of killed him. I'm kinda glad I had a chance to race him because I have seen his car around town before and he thinks it is really fast.(NOT!!!)Did I forget to mention that I beat this guy without my SUPERCHIP installed? It's at SUPERCHIPS right now getting updated.

O.K. I'll spill. Two weeks ago, I was late for work (must have been fri. after late night chat) and I'm racing as if a few minutes count. This mid size, older model car full of kids pull up next to me at the light, obviously out having fun. I should mention that I'm suposed to be at work at 2:30 am and it was now 3:00am. So when the light turns, I put it 3/4 down (standard for me) when I hear the sound of my (cheap) tires squealing along with the other car. It was kinda funny, we both squealed in first, then we both squealed in second, staying even with each other. I could tell by the sound of their motor, they were giving it all it had. So I finally gave in and floored it and smoothly blew by them to the next light, where I stopped, and then turned instead of waiting for them, so I missed seeing the dissapointed look on their faces. As much as I would have enjoyed it, I WAS late for work after all. Good thing the next light was right on time because whenever it hits forth, this thing kinda lays down and they probably would have got me, but hey! I wouldn't have felt bad, because they're a CAR!! And I was just having some fun!! Needless to say I was awake by the time I got to work I don't peticularly like working in Pontiac, but I must say that I've never been pulled over for doing 85 in a 25 cuz, the cops there are all concerned with "real" crime. Or should I say real cream, like in cream-filled?

And Dunbarton,

They ran about a second slower than the 99's, according to motor trend.

I think you can take that Dodge, Chaplain!
You're pumping about 335-340hp at the flywheel, and hes got 310. You're lighter, etc.

Hey Chaplain are you a present or former tanker guy? I worked as a crewchief on them for 12 years, still remember the first time I flew on a R model. I had a light fuel load on the jet and when the pilot rleased the brakes for takeoff It pushed me back in the seat and scooted up quick!
