5.4L auto vs. 4.6L manual / 4.6L auto vs. 4.2L manual
I know a manual tranny in most cars is a lot quicker than their automatic conterparts and wanted to know if the same held true for the F150.
I know that in most 4cyl cars there is a HUGE difference.

The 5.4 is a great engine w/ gobs of torque, the 4.6 is pretty tough. But a 4.2/manual vs. 4.6/auto (both stock), I'm willing to bet that 7 times out of 10, the V-6 will pull it out. I've beat every 4.6 stop light to stoplight and on on-ramps jaunts. (I'll admit that a couple were super cabs) The two 5.4's I ran across beat me, one flat out left me (on-ramp) and the other couldn't leave me (stayed with-in a truck length, was a '98). It really depends on auto/5-speed, rear gearing, mods and driver. Either way, I still like the competition, win or lose!

Ditto that. The 4.6 supercabs are beatable with a 4.2/manual. I can always tell when it's a 5.4 because all I see is a tailgate getting smaller and smaller and...

I raced a won against a 4.6 auto s/c, and that was before I bought a Superchip.

5.4 should win over the 4.6, but the 4.6 will win over the 4.2l.

Ok, enough conjecture. Lets post some real data here. I'll start with my 4.2L V6 Auto Regular Cab STX. I ran a 16.26 @ 84.4 at the F-150 Online gathering at Milan Dragway this past Saturday. Neal, how about posting your times from Saturday. Anyone else?

Hotv6, What are your 1/8 mile times? I haven't run mine in the quarter. I get 10.6-10.7 sec runs @ 64-65mph on the short track. That will take a stock 4.6 that turns 10.8's. I've seen it many times, have you "Fast46?"

SlickSTX, no I havent. Put me up against a similar equipped 4.2 V6, and Ill walk on them. I dont get how the V6's can run with the 4.6l. Well Hp is close.

What we're saying is that a 4.2/man. will out run a SC4.6, not a reg. cab. Lets not let this get into a pi$$ing contest. Were all Fords here.

Hey! Guys, the only reason I (and I suppose the other 6-ers will back me) posted my experiences w/ the 8's was too point out that the V-6 is not the dog it is sometimes made out to be. The V-6 is an engine that likes to turn up some rpm's. I enjoy riding in my buddy's '99 SC/5.4, it'll flat push you into the seat, however he thought I had an 8 the first time he rode in mine. They're all Fords and All-Fun!!! Just trying to give a little support to my fellow Sixers!!

doc_f150, you're correct about these v6 trucks not being dogs. I've owned a 65 v8 Ford, a 78 v8 Chevy, a 85 v6 S10, and this big old heavy F150 V6 will run circles around every one of them. I will never get over the thrill of leaving a red light and looking in the rear view mirror and see everyone loosing ground like they were dragging a boat anchor.

doc_f150 I am behind you 100%. The only thing I was saying, is it is a known fact that automatics use up more hp than manual trannys. Put 2 identical trucks on the track except one in a 4.6 auto and the other is a 4.2 manual - I would put my money on the V6 (I know I have been there before).
