Highest Top Speeds with Superchip

This thread is for those brave souls who have somehow managed to test the upper limits with their Superchip, and survived to tell us about it. Please, we don't want anyone getting arrested, or taking inordinate risks with their lives or the lives of others on public roads, just for the sake of putting a big number up on the board here. I've been getting calls from some of the members who have had the opportunity to really see just how fast their F-series will run on the top end with the Superchip in place. (There will be some with Superchips, primarily very new vehicles, where the top speed limiter has not yet been defeated, and in those cases, it's alwasy a free upgrade when Superchips gets that done for your code). So anyone who has been able to get a good idea of how fast their truck runs, despite the speedo stopping at 100mph on the newer F-150's, please post your tale!

Hey Mike, I have 98 Nascar Edition. Before superchip top speed was 95. After chip it is still pulling strong as it passes 100 in overdrive and hasn't reached peak torqe. I'm happy.

A relativly cheap (less than $100) way of getting accurate speeds is to use a handheld GPS receiver. I've got one that I mount to the dashboard w/a cell phone holder

The DoD does insert some error into the civilian signal, so it's not as accurate as a 5th wheel speedo, but it should be much better than the factory gauge and it will track speeds a lot higher than ANY F-150 can go.

Another neat thing the GPS lets you do is get waypoints off the net (mapblast.com is a good site) and download them to the GPS. Then, as you are driving, the GPS will let you know that a waypoint is approaching.

It's just an all around useful toy...at least that's what I told my wife!

Glad to hear someone else is into electronic gadgets like me. I had a Magellan 2000 but sold it a year ago and my Garmin 12XL should be at my house by tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Logan, I've been using the Magellan 2000 for about 3 years. I'm waiting for the price of the mapping GPS's to drop a little more before upgrading.

most trucks are limited to the speed of their tire rating, don't know if anyone has seen what happens to a pickup when they lose air or a tire at top speed, with such a high sidewall the truck can do a flip. i'm sure the reason the the lightning is allowed to go 140mph is the low profile "z" rated tires. these trucks have powerful motors and when you lose the speed limiter they go faster than you will ever need to go, an example on my dodge ram 2500 v-10 w/factory computer 108mph, with modified computer only 150mph w/3.55 gears.

We need to locate someone in Montana to do a speed run. They have no day time speed limit. I am not headed that way this year. Last year I was hauling my Harley and wasn't chiped so it would have done any good. Anybody know somebody in Montana?

do it on a dyno, i know it will not account for wind and other variables, but usually the body count is lower.

On GPS...

I love GPS. I am now on my third one, the last wto with maps. I currently have the dash mounted color StreetPilot and I love it. Best tech toy I've ever had by far. Love to talk to you about if any REALLY cares.

On "Top Speed"

This does concern me a little. I don't want insult anyone by suggesting you don't know this, but.. 120MPH plus in a sports car or even a luxury sedan in legal/safe areas is one thing! Doing it with a big high profile truck is quite another! The slightest loss of control and you have the potential to injur not only yourself but people you may never know! I will admit have run my truck a time or two and I'm sure any DPS office would say It was totaly illegal and unsafe and he'd be right! Just be frosty out there when your driving hard and don't be stupid.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox...

I'm pretty sure mine will go at least 80mph. I'm not sure though since I've never ran it faster than 75mph. I ain't nearly as crazy as I was when I was young.
