i saw an ad for meguiars 3 step system--paint cleaner, polish, and deep crystal wax. Anyone used this? How does it compare to Liquid glass or Cherry wet?

 

I've used there 3-step program a couple times before. First time was on an older '82 TransAm that was about 15 years old at the time with the original paint. (The car was taken care of meticulously and garage kept by the original owner.) It really helped it out a lot. The Body Scrub (step 1) really took a lot of the old oxidated paint off leaving it in much better condition. The polish brought out the depth of the color and the wax of course shined it up. The finished result was pretty impressive. It really made a 15 year old paint job look close to brand new. A couple years ago I tired the same process on my F-150 and did not have anywhere near as good of results with the body scrub. It seemed to kind of 'spot' my paint job and took an enormous amount of time to get it completely buffed off and cleaned up ready to polish. The polish and wax worked fine. In retrospect, I don't think I'd use the body scub again. It didn't seem to help that much and was a lot more work than it was worth. I believe the main difference between the two cars may have been that the clearcoat on the F-150.

 

im going to dawn my 98 and put down a good coats of cherry wet wax. What other prep should i do?

 

Clay bar if you want. You can also do a hand polish with Meguiar's #9 or Meguiar's Swirl Free Polish.

 

I have used Meguiars 3step Deep Crystal system before. My mom has a 96 Windstar LX. At the time I wanted to see how well the system worked alone, no dawn, no clay. Just the 3step. I used it on there, came out looking very nice and I must say the only problem is when I went to buff off step2 polish, I buffed my friggin arm off!! I put it on thin, used it according to directions, and I was pissed about how much rubbing I had to do with the results that were achieved. The wax went on smooth, came off pretty easy. Overall mom's van came out looking pretty nice!

I've used and it works well. Takes quite a while to complete all the steps though. It works as advertised. The carnuba wax goes on easy and WON'T dry white....so your not chasing streaks several days later.

I recently switched to Liquid Glass and am happy with it also. A lot less work and good shine. I did notice that it took two applications for the shine to really become exceptional. I hear Zaino is even better yet, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to a multi step process.

 

I have been doing the Meguiar's 3 step process for a couple of years. I have slightly modified it to suit me. After winter I start with clay barring the truck. Then I go over the whole truck with Body Scrub. For the 2nd step I use the New Care Glaze instead of Polish and for the 3rd step I use Meguiar's High Tech Yellow Wax. The truck looks awesome after it is done. I use Quik Detailer several times a week to keep the truck clean. I also use the Quik Wax normal once a week to give added protection to the finish. It has worked to keep my truck looking great.

 

I have used the 3-step products on my 92 Jimmy without clearcoat several times. It makes a HUGE difference in the oxidized paint (even when I used to do it all by hand). My '00 F150 has a clearcoat though and I haven't seen a need for all 3 steps. So far a coat of polish before a coat of wax has given satisfactory results so far.
