What kind, vinyl? I keep mine on, just use some kind of conditioner on it. I like 303 Aerospace Protectant. Snaps suck in the winter, but once on, it is fine.

I have a hard tonneau, and leave mine on. That is one of the reasons I got a hard tonneau in the first place. Mine is diamond plate.

I've got the stock Ford soft tonneau on mine and it's been through 3 winters on Northeast Ohio with no problems.

if you bought an extang soft cover -they recommend that you only clean it .no protectants

I have got the Downey sst tonneau cover. I work's well & no problem's in winter. Although when I take it off to haul some thing in winter I loosen the 4 clamp's and take it off in one piece.
To hard to resnap back on when it's cold.

As far as the finish I never use protectant on it I just wash it down when I do the carwash thing.

I've got a soft tonneau cover, that I have left on thru out the winter. I usually sweep the snow off of it in the mornings, and yep, the snaps are a bear in the winter. The great thing about the newer covers is that you can open the tailgate without having to undo the cover.

If you need to remove the cover and reinstall it during winter, a bucket of hot water will make it much easier to snap. Just snap as many as possible, then dump the hot water on the tight area. It will stretch and snap much easier. This or pulling into a heated garage is the only way I can get my techstyle soft cover back on in winter.

extang

my truck has the soft tonno and the snaps are crazy in the winter but it is much easier if you turn the snaps around, so leave it on.

extang makes a protectant for the soft tonnos and it works great, as if it was armor-alled and it wont void the warrenty, get it where you bout the tonno
