Exclamation Help me DETAIL my truck!

Hi all,

I have had my truck for almost a year. This Saturday the weather is supposed to be nice and cool and I really want to give the truck a good detail. I have decided that I want to give her a good wash with some "dish soap", and good claybar, and finish it up with a wax job.

I have seen tons of threads about all the products, but it just seems from these posts people recommend applying 5 or 6 products to there truck, and I don't have the time or money to do this. My questions is what can I get at the local store to get my truck's paint looking as good as new!

I was thinking the following:

1. "Dish Soap" wash
2. Clay Bar
3. Wax

(By the way my truck is BLACK)

Input???

I would
Dawn wash it

Polsih (Meguires #9 I believe)
Wax (Liquid Glass)

Intel486 can help you more, but this is what I would do.

Polish it eh? I haven't researched that at all. I have some kind of Mequires wax in the garage. Not sure what kind though. It's in a round maroon canister I think. I will have to check it out.

Yea I sent Intel and email about some wax stuff a few days back. Waiting on his response.

here is what u do with black:

1) wash wtih dawn
2) wash with good car wash soap
3) let dry
4) 2 coats of liquid glass car polish (you get it at autozone)
5) Meguiars gold class wax or carnuba wax

Do it completely too--if youve got painted wheels, wax them too. Get some turtle wax chrome polish (little white botle with red cap) and use it just like wax on all chrome. Use a good interior clenaer, like black magic plastizer dash cleaner.

Do all this and your truck will look new

If you have swirls in your black paint, like I did, you will need to use a good polish to remove them, before you wax.

Mcguiars #9 is excellent! Use liquid glass after the #9 and you will be amazed at the results.

Good Luck!!

For black your'll want to do a polish. If you don't have time to do it all at once then break your truck down into panels.

So, this weekend you'll wash your truck. If you're going to be usign a synthetic wax like liquid glass or Klasse Sealant Glaze, then wash with Dawn. Otherwise go with a normal car soap.

Next Clay your Truck and then put a coat of wax on it.

Now, when you find time you can wash one panel and go over it a few times by hand with a polish and then wax it. Do one panel every few days or everytime you wash and your truck will stay looking great always. When you finish the last panel, then you can just start layering wax on your truck or move start polishing the panels over again.

I just read this one technique a used car lot uses that seems to get good results. They go over the vehicle twice by hand with a polish, then two times with a cleaner wax, and then two times with a pure carnauba wax. Maybe you should try that

Clay Bar I recommend Mother's Clay available in a box set.

For a polish I recommend Meguiar's #9

For a Carnauba Wax I recommend Meguiar's Gold Class or
Meguiar's #26. Meguiar's GC has a better shine but poor durability. Meguiar's #26 has a good shine but better durability.

For a synthetic wax I recommend Liquid Glass or Klasse Sealant Glaze for black.

Okay, sounds good.

I don't have any swirl marks in my paint (that I can see anyway). I am starting early Sat. mornnig and want to get the entire truck done that day. My wife will go to work cleaning the inside stuff. I do notice some water spots, but nothing terrible.

I will print this out and go to a local autoparts store in the area and see if I can find all of this stuff. Will the Mothers clay bars come with a lubricant? And the best method for the clay bar is to use up and down strokes correct? Thanks guys!

-ALSO- What should I use to wipe the truck down and apply the polish etc... Special towels??

-Brian

The Mother's clay comes in a box set with a small bottle of their cleaner wax (enough to do your truck once) and a bottle of lubricant.

For applying wax and polish use those foam applicators.

For buffing it off use 100% Cotton Towels! No polyester as it will scratch.
