Question clay bars vs. acid baths

what's better for removing foriegn objects from your car??? clay bars or acid baths.....seems like acid baths are better to me because of the acid that is eating away the foriegn matter on your car or truck(is it safe for the clearcoat ) seems to be better to me too because of the less chance of straching the paint with a clay bar.

Also on the side here......there is a guy that rolles around town here drives a 1987 Ford F-150 and I have never seen rust nor never a dull finish on his truck. In fact he lives about 2 miles down the road from me, i see him every now and then and his truck always and I mean always looks fantastic and really shiny. I asked him 1 day cuz i saw him outside in his garden i asked him how do you keep your truck so shiny?????? He said" well i use acid baths to remove all material from the paint and then i use kerosene to wash it to help protect it and keep looking nice. I know him pretty well and he has owned the truck since new and the truck has never been repainted or touched for that matter.

But my question is will kerosene eventually dull out your paint........ I heard this from my instructor at school. WEll fell free to reply to this and lemme know what you think

Mike

P.S how do you post a pic on here the forums of your gallery of your truck.......i noticed alot of you like do that.

Re: clay bars vs. acid baths

They are both different things. Sometimes you'll do an acid bath and it won't remove eveything and you'll have to use clay to really smooth it out. Yes Acid bath is safe for your truck. I use ProWax's Power Lift Fallout Acid followed by their suggested soap, C-60 Super Car Wash. It is really easy to apply

People use kerosene in their wash water to help remove stuff like bugs and tar. I would not use it everytime you wash though becase it will probably be stripping wax.

For posting pics go to the picture you want to post and right click on it. Then in the pop-up menu click on properties. In the properties menu there is a URL. Highlight the url and click ctrl+C to copy the link. Then come to the post you want to put it in and click the IMG button. It is right above the Your Reply box to the right of "vB Code". Clicking the IMG button brings up a box. Simply click in the box and higlight whatever is in there. Then press ctrl+V to paste the link into the box. Then simply hit ok and it puts it at the botton of the "your reply" box.

It's a Great bug remover. It won't harm your paint... unless you apply it and light it on fire

I've seen it used, and I've posted about this awhile back. My family used to vacation in northern ontario each summer. Nice lodge in the tall pines. Their cars always looked tops, and I always thought this odd, since the lodge is accessible only by several miles of dirt road. Every week, the son had to wash the cars. He used exactly one cup of kerosene in a bucket of cold water (standard size pail). It not only removed the dirt and bug scum (VERY thick by weeks end up there), but the accumulation of pine sap that lightly speckled the finish by the end of each week. I never saw them wax the car. After washing, they'd use rags and dry off the finish. The kerosene added a rather nice sheen to the finish. They'd been washing their cars like that for several years -- AND wintering in their regular home in Cleveland (read: heavy road salting in winter). The owner said he waxed the cars only on return to Cleveland in the fall. Never saw any rust on their cars in the 5 years I went to their lodge. I've used the cup o' kerosene trick myself when bug grime is heaviest during june bug season. Never had a problem. But you are very DEFINATELY stripping the wax when you do so. Use kero if you like for stubborn problems -- it does work like a champ -- but be sure to rewash the regular way and wax when you're done.

sundog7,

kerosene is great for removing bugs, tar, tree sap etc..... Kerosene is refined diesel fuel. You probplay didn't see these people wax there cars very often because kerosene has very fine oils in it that help out somewhat with protection with rust. My uncle used kero. on his 1984 Olds Delta 88 and it was in perfect shape, not bad for 135K when he got rid of it. He used 2 cups of kero. on the car every time he washed it with car wash. And then afterwards he would glaze it with meguiars. He kept it in beautiful condition and he clayed it polished it and waxed with a DA poilisher machine, twice a year, and the engine ran like a new watch.........he used Amsoil porducts BTW. Anyway, if you do use kerosene that is fine but make sure not too use too much or you might harm the paint, not sure how you would harm it but you would most likely damage something. ALso the stuff reeks really bad(i.e it stinks too high heaven

BTW, does it sull out paint over time???????
