best wax

I am taking all day saturday to try and clean my truck. i wash it once a week or so but i usually only hit it 2 times a year with some wax. I want to get it good this time. What would be a good wax to use, i dont have a buffer so i just do it by hand.

Give it 2 coats of Meg's NXT 2.0 and you'll be good to go. Make sure you claybar first though, please!

For a detailing novice, doing it by hand, that's very good advice. Apply it VERY THIN and let it set up before you remove it. Generally, once you have it applied to the whole vehicle, you can go back and remove it in the same panel order. Wait 12 hours before applying the second coat.

Asking what is the "best" wax will get you almost as many answers as we have members........

Ok guys thanks a ton. i am gonna check out some waxes at the local auto parts store i know they have a ton of them.

GLC i have always done waxing by hand as well as polishing my wheels i know it takes longer but i kinda enjoy it lol. I have never clay barred anything before so that scares me a little. I just washed it up i know ill have to hit it again saturday but i couldn't stand to see it dirty til then.

Any thoughts on mothers or meguiers products? I know they are usually a shelf brand but i don't want to go in a ton for some higher end stuff. I have used turtle wax and still have their butter wax i think.

Yeah i kinda figured that after i posted but i was too lazy to edit anything lol i just was looking for something to make that silver kinda pop i know its one of those colors that just is hard to do anything "extra" with unlike black and reds.
IDK lol ill figure it out

My plan of attack on this is to wax the whole truck then start the wheel polishing i figure that while i am doing the wheels the wax will have plenty of time to set up and then i can take it off.

Don't be afraid to clay it - it will make a big difference.

I like NXT 2.0 because it's a very durable synthetic that has a bit of cleaning and polishing ability too. The liquid is very easy to apply, and very easy to remove as long as it's thin and set up.

A tip for keeping it looking good - get a spray bottle of Megs Ultimate Quik Wax and use it after every wash. It only adds about 20 minutes to your wash job.

I want a sealant that would leave that chalky white haze on the rubber moulding. The only one I've found so far that fills that bill is Zaino.

How does the Meg NXT 2.0 fair in this regard?

While I love NXT on my metalic green paint on my truck, but I just recently did my wife's silver mustang with DuraGloss products, and really liked how the silver ended up looking.

I used DG 601 pba (polish bonding agent) and DG 105 TPP (total performance polish) and then DG spray on Aqua-wax.

The 601 you apply like a wax, but you don't buff it off...you do the whole car like that.

Then you apply the 105, working on one panel at a time, and apply/let haze/buff off with a clean microfiber towel. When you're done with that, then go over the whole car with aqua-wax.

I'll bet you can get all three of those products for less than 30 bux...give it a try on your silver, you won't be disappointed.

Ditto on the clay bar.

I just did a check on my wife's 2000 Expy lift gate (silver in poor shape). Clayed, Meg's ultimate compount, Meg's ultimate polish, 1 coat of Meg's NXT.....Wow what a difference. But you are right about trying to get silver to "pop".

If nothing else get the Meg's clay kit and follow the easy directions, you will be pleased with the difference.

One thing about claybaring, if you drop the clay bar on the ground, throw it away. If you use it after hitting the ground, it is very likely to start swirling your paint, as there will now be particultes of sand grians embedded in the clay.

Maybe don't toss, it save it for use on thiings you want to clean put arn't worried about scratching. Just don't use it on good paint finish. I usually tear a new bar in half, in case I drop the first half, I still have the other half to keep working with.

Don't be afraid of clay bar, if you can operate a spray bottle and rub the paint, then you got it!
