Hey Coolsvile,
I recommend using an orbital buffer. I didn't use one for the first year of owning my truck and was loosing patience for how long it would take to hand wax and buff my entire truck. Then I tried the buffer, being wary about horror stories of people "burning" their paint with the electric buffers. I have had no problems and the job goes much quicker! The paint "burning" happens when you leave the buffer on one spot for too long and it mars the paint finish due to heat build up. If you take your time and pay attention to what you are doing, then you should have no problems. Take your time, always use clean bonnets, and good luck.

I would recommend a Dual-Action Orbital Buffer from Porter-Cable, they're a little pricey but they last forever. Also they use foam pads that don't allow heat buildup like cotton bonnets, you can also switch between different grades of foam.
Whichever one you get I wouldn't recommend using the buffer to take OFF the excess wax, put it on with the buffer and take it off by hand.

I use a Craftsman 9" random orbital. Its been in service for about 12 years right now. Ive replaced the foam pad a couple times after it wore out, but otherwise still going strong and it gets a LOT of use. I think you can get it for around $69 on sale at sears.

Orbital buffers are the way to go but they certainly can be abused. A friend of mine smoked my first one by putting pressure on it and even marred his finish. Watch your bonnets carefully so as not to get any foreign objects in them.
Any orbital will do a good job and cut your waxing time significantly.

Cool

www.griotsgarage.com sells the Porter unit as well as all the attachments. I am afraid of using one on my Black truck though. Have heard too many people screw up their paint. Maybe if I practice on the wifes car.....hmmm?
