road strip paint
I drove over a freshly painted highway line (no cones or anything to warn people) and then right beside the paint truck. Needless to say, my black f150 is now covered in white specks all over the passenger side and tailgate. Enyone know of the best way to get this off? I called TxDOT and they say its a water-based paint. Surprised huh? Even more surprising was their suggestion to use wd40 to remove it. Anyone have any experience with this? Whats the best cleaner to remove it? i Have tried TarGone in a blue can and also some turtle wax tar and bug remover. both did very little in removing the spots. they almost have to be scratched off 1 by 1. anyways, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same thing happen to me except somebody lost a bucket of paint I think and I ran in it, anyway I had spatters of white paint all over the right side of the truck, luckily I was able to get most all off with soap and water and a little scraping with my fingernails. Well up until about a month ago I still had little white specks every where. I did the whole Zaino process on the truck, and the claybar took every one of those specks off. So the only way you are gonna get them off short of scraping them one by one is a claybar.

WD40 works great removing bugs tar and paint spots. It won't harm your clearcoat just spray some on a white rag or towel and rub until it comes off. The WD40 works its way into the the spot and loosens it up from underneath.

Why are you doing this yourself? You have a legitimate claim against the Highway Department. They should be paying a detailer to fix your truck. If it can't be fixed, then they need to pay a paint/body shop to fix it.
well they gave me a number to call if i wanted to get a claim started, but if its like anything else that is controlled by the state then its going to be a lot of trouble and take a lot of time. I just thought i would give a shot at doing it myself before i got into all that. I definitely agree that I have a legitimate claim and i plan on calling them if i cant get it off relatively easily, however i'll have to fight them tooth and nail to get them to do anything about it.

Not dealing with the state? That reminds me of hitting a pothole in my 300ZX back in the mid-80's. I wrote a nasty letter about the hidden pothole and told them it wrecked a tire and aluminum rim. They sent me a check for nearly $500. Never really thought they'd come through, but they did.
This incident occurred in San Antonio, TX, btw.
