Post Polish-Wax-Polish?

It's been about a month since I had the roof cracks fixed. They did a total take down to bare metal, then repainted the roof, after putting in new gutter stuff. Anyway, time to put some wax on. I clay barred it, then put two coats of wax on. Seems like I had heard about putting a coat of polish on after the wax. Is that recommended? Wouldn't the polish take off the wax?
Thanks for the help.

You want to polish before you wax.....the wax is what protects the surface after it has been polished.

But do you polish, ONLY before a wax? Do you never polish between wax jobs? If you do, does the polish remove the wax?

Yes, polishing after a wax job will remove any previously applied wax. However, your previously applied wax is going to start breaking down from the environment anyway after awhile. So, don't feel like that your wasting your time by removing the previously applied wax with the polish. It's actually necessary if you want a nice, protected finish,

It's like changing your underwear

(Gawd, why did I say that?)

Cool

I'll just second the motions above, wax should be the last step. In case you're wondering how often, I read a article that Consumer Reports did on waxes and they found that the AVERAGE length of time before wax loses it' protective properties (or just wears off) is 22 DAYS. So once a month or so should be ok.
BTW, there are of course different grades of polishes and some may be so mild they won't completely remove the previous coat of wax.

Hey Kenster,
I use Zaino products,
which enables me to just
have to use the polish. I
don't have to worry about
the waxing. It's all in
one and leaves a glossy
wet look to my truck. The
Zaino line of products
protects against acid
rain, bird goo, bug guts,
water spots... etc. I've
been using it for a while
now and I'm very
impressed! I've spoken
with Sal(owner/inventor)
and it only needs to be
applied twice a year.
More often if you would
prefer. He does recommend
at least 3 coats
initially, but after
that, twice a year does
the trick.
I do like polishing my
truck more frequently,
just to see that wet look
enhanced even more. Zaino
also carries a spray
which is an enhancer,
that you can apply.
If your interested in
Zaino just link on: www.zainobros.com
The best thing I like
about Zaino is that it's
both a wax and a polish
all in one. Thought this might help, if you are intersted in an all in one product.

Best of luck!

Hey Sycoholic,
Very cute, I edited the rest of my post out of respect for Kenster. I realize you made a joke, but I'm not one to be the brunt of one, especially if I'm trying to help someone.

Really Lariat Ryder, you have to relax a bit. I've noticed that about 9 out of 10 posts you make are to push Zaino. Why you do it doesn't matter, the fact that you don't have a sense of humor about it does. I have no doubt that you have complete faith in the product, but take it easy, it was only a joke.

On the other hand, that "twice a year" claim is stretching it a bit. I can see the effectiveness start to wear off after 2 months or so; and, yes, I do follow the instructions to the letter.

Hey Andthensometoo and Indyfan,
I do have a sense of humor, but when someone is insinuating me sleeping with a guy and everyone reading the posts are laughing at me. Don't find it too humorous. Of course if the joke was about either of you sleeping with another guy, I'm sure you would find it hilarious right?
Point well taken though.... thanks.
Indyfan, I too think twice a year is pushing it. I usually polish my truck once a month. It's one of the best products on the market in my opinion and I'm very impressed with it. The way I came about learning of this product, was through this site. I don't "push" I just let fellow members know how well it works. If you re-check my posts, you'll find that I suggest and also add that there are other good products. Such as Mothers, 3M and Mequires.
