Post Problems with paint

I have a black '98 f150 4X4. I have noticed that the paint seems to scratch easily. I just noticed that where my gas cap hangs while filling up is scratched badly.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Any recommendations on both repair of problem areas as well as a wax that might be best for protecting the paint?

Thats the problem with black. My truck is black and I'm really careful when it comes to the paint. When I fill up my truck I tuck the gas cap to the left of the nozzle back up where the hinge goes when the door is shut.

Another area that shows alot of wear are the door handles.

I noticed that with my previous 98 and the 2000 I now have. You can take your fingernail and slightly rub it on the paint..and you will see a white mark in the finish.

Just keep a good coat of wax on it. I use a polish on the finish before waxing (not the cleaning or 'cleaner' type polish). It helps make it look like glass.

Thumbs up

By the way..I use Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Polish (clear coat safe) followed by Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Polish Carnauba wax.

Great stuff!

Talking

Greetings!

My '00 Black/Silver Lariat is now riddled with hairline scratches and swirls, etc., even after my meticulous care. I have tried literally every product available, nothing really works. I have resigned to simply dealing with it. Additionally, there are "pits" all over the hood and on the tops of the front fenders. I'm going to have the dealer repaint the hood at least before the 12/12,000 paint warranty runs out. Ford's paint REALLY SUCKS .... way to "soft" and the clear coat is dismal. My friends Volvo has a awesome paint job that never scratches ... too bad Ford cant use Volvo paint now that they own the company. The silver frost on the bottom of my truck is in perfect shape, however. Starting to regret getting black paint.... OH WELL ... still love the truck despite the crappy paint job...
