Wax The Day After Washing?

I usually try to wax the same day I wash, but what do you guys think about waxing the day after?

William

For how many hours after wash?

More than 2 outside, no.

I generaly hit it really well with a good QD. It can take me three days to do a full workup on my truck, so it's unavoidable. Best case scenario would be to re-wash but sometimes you just don't have the time.

Yeah...that's the thing. Most of the time I don't feel like waxing the same day. I never have waxed it the day after but it's tempting sometimes. Another thing is it would be all dry so no streaks when you wipe off the wax.

Like mentioned before, I'd hit it with some QD before waxing. Are you leaving the truck in the garage or will it be outside? If outisde, I'd re-wash.

If you can QD it, if it is safe to do so, then you can wax it IMO. After you QD it, the paint should be clean and ready.

What is it about QD that makes it safe to use without scratching the paint?

It lubricates the surface and enables the towel to lift off the contaminants, just like car wash soap does for the car wash mitt. The mitt and soap are safer for heavier deposits because, well, the wash soap solution lubricates better than QD and there is much more of it on the surface at once; unlike just a couple of mists of QD.

QD is not always safe to use without scratching. It depends on many factors including and mainly your technique, but also the environment, type of dust, dirt or sand, towels, type of QD and type of paint.

The difference in the amount of work/money to correct the defects you may induce versus another quick wash and wiping wet waxing streaks is night and day and IMO not worth the risk.

It's easy enough to mar, scratch and swirl your paint with poor washing technique alone. Don't know about where you live but quite a bit of dust and dirt settle at night and in the early am. I see it on my black truck every day sometimes minutes after washing. If you live within 30 miles of any water with sand...it's everywhere, even when you don't see it.
Good luck.

I would never do anything to the truck without immediately washing it first.

Are you waxing by hand? I'm guessing you are

I can't imagine hand washing my XLT, let alone hand waxing it. Perrelli's detail shop in Sylvania OH will detail the whole truck including the motor for $120. Wash inside and out, seal the tires and wheels and hand dry for $14.00.
I go twice a year for the detailing, and once a week for the wash.

A semi-truck would be a bummer...a pickup truck, pretty easy really. Those are pretty decent prices I suppose for what they do, providing it is good, quality work.
