Has anyone experienced the paint on the hood, roof, door panels, etc. cracking. Ford is having to repaint my truck because the paint was to thick. 20 mills in most places.

The roof of my truck has formed little rust spots all over it. The roof is the only place. Ford never has had good paint. My '85 F150 was recalled for a paint job yrs ago. The paint on my truck now worries me, especially cause its black, and black shows everything. I have 50K miles on my, but the Ford body man said since I havent had it for 3 yrs yet, that if I talked to the service manager where I bought it at, they would pay for the new paint, except for like a $50 deductible.

 

You should not not have to pay anything. Ford is responsible under the terms of the warranty. No deductable should be required.

 

A few other members have posted this problem...but considering the traffic on this site..it does not seem to be a common problem.

Since he has 50,000 miles on it, he is out of warranty. Even under regular warranty, I think there is a one year limit to "environmental/paint" problems. If they will agree to do it for $25 bucks, he should jump on it. YOu might try a clay bar and good polish/wax job before they mess with the paint, though. I just had my roof cracks done. NOw there are little bumps in the new paint as well as overspray down the side columns. They also made a mess of my brand new bed liner.

Before using paint clay, read my post under general car care "paint clay". Ford has a TSB out on it!!!! Don't use it. My truck was 6 years old when Ford authorized a repaint on it...so don't let the dealer pull any fast one with...you are out of warranty!

Clay Bar wont help it. This is RUST spots. Paint is gone, rust has formed. My paint job is shot to ****. After being side swiped by an old 70's model rusted F100, made of tank metal, and edge of a steel trailer knocking the crap out of it, it looks crappy. Ford body shop doesnt do worth a crap. I have little clear coat over spray spots everywhere. Tiny bubbles all over the bed. And cheap painting, clearcoat, and buffing job done on it make it ugly when close up, but from a distant she's a one of a kind.

LOL, i can't believe that. I own a paintshop and even some of the minimal powder coating we do doesn't get that thick!!!

I have a 96 explorer with paint cracks all over it, will ford still repaint it at no charge?

 

2o mils works out to 80 sq ft per gallon if the paint was 100% solids. But its not, Its more like 50% solids so your talking more like 40sqft/gal. so they must have put 4 or 5 gallons of paint on you're truck, thats amazing

Just got my truck back from being completely repainted. They did a crappy job. They had it for 17 days. When I finally got it back, the door locks don't work; clearcoat on the windows; clearcoat on the front bumper; missing clearcoat on the hood and other places; missed places (grey metal exposed); 3 large scratches on the roof; left and right roof channels are badly pitted from media blasting and missing paint and the inside of my emaculately clean interior was coated with a white/red paint dust. Just filthy! So I get to take it back again to the dealership to try it again!

Extremely pissed off! I can tell this paint job is definately not of the quality of the plant!

Would love to take this truck and shove it up the dealers ***!

Dude!!! That it UNBELIEVABLE.... I would be completely out of my mind... you'd better contact the regional Ford rep and get this straightned out ASAP. That is completely unacceptable. You may want to get an attorney as well. Make sure you escalate this to someone at Ford Corporate!!!

I am debating bringing my truck in to have the hood repainted as is is horribly pitted for some reason, now I may just have it repainted by a local body shop on my dollar.
