My process:

Get the engine slightly warm, spray down with cleaner of choice, rinse.

DO NOT USE A PRESSURE WASHER!

I use the gentle setting on my hose nozzle. If you don't have one, just let the water flow out of the end of the hose, but turn the pressure down at the spigot.

Finish with dressing of choice.

Engine Compartment cleaning. I've done this a few times on various Vehicles I've owned. Before you do anything... Remove the battery and protect Electronic Modules that might be affected by Moisture. Remove the Air Cleaner and cover the Throttle Body.

Warm your Engine... Do NOT Apply Cleaner or wash engine while it is HOT. Spray on your Engine Cleaner and let it do its Magic... you might need to work in the Cleaner with a wire Brush. Then rinse with your Garden Hose.... with a gentle spray that will wash away the grime and dirt. You might need to do a second application. Once done... leave the hood Opened and let the Engine Compartment Air Dry. Install all removed components... battery should be last.

I use an Engine Cleaner from Griots Garage all their Products are great. They also have a Product that makes your Undercarriage and wheel Wells look like new. www.griotsgarage.com

Have fun....let me know if you have any further detailing questions.

My method is to first, Wipe down the bay while dry with a couple of old dry MF's. Then use the blow gun on a compressor and blow out all the crud you have knocked loose. Rewipe the parts that are still dirty. I get a little OCD with it and use a toothbrush to get all the junk out of the crevices on the air filter and tube. Finally I dress it up with what ever "junk"(armor all, F21) I have laying around, I usually get an old MF damp with product and go to town for about an hour. If you do this at least yearly there should never be any need to use any type of engine cleaner and certianly no need to spray the motor with a hose.

I clean my plastics with my Gold Class and dry it and leave it as is, sometimes i'll dress it. Engine it yourself use a cleaner and let it work and lightly rinse it out.
