Got keyed.
Well last night (Sunday) my truck must have made someone jealous and they decided to key it from the passenger side front fender down the entire side of the truck, stopping at the back of the cab.
I didn't even notice it until my girlfriend said something this morning about it, and then I decided to look and wanted to cry.
Its a bright red truck, and now it has a white line going down the side of it. If the line is white, what does that usually mean? It's really deep/not to deep?
Also... if I get insurance involved... will I have to pay a deductible seeing that it isn't my fault the truck made someone jealous?
(And no, I don't have any problems with anyone... no mad ex girlfriends or anything like that... I just think the truck made someone jealous (I detailed it the day before.) and they decided to become one of the biggest ****** on the face of the earth.

Man that really sucks. Sorry to hear that someone cant just appreciate someone elses hard work and pride of ownership in something. The only good news that I may have is that comprehensive may cover this and might not have a deductable depending on how you insurance is set up.
Sorry to hear that. Insurance should hopefully cover it and repair the scratch. You cant have a nice truck anymore these days. If gas doesn't stop you, a hater will try to...
if you can run your fingernail over it and feel it, theres nothing you can do. you can use the cheap touch up paint, or you will have to have that whole side repainted. it sucks, ive been there. filing it against your insurance is your call. i personally wouldnt do. sorry to hear it. best of luck to you

If you file it under comprehensive, that will not be considered chargeable. Vandalism is covered under comprehensive, not collision. The only time an insurance company gets upset about comprehensive claims is if you have a whole bunch of them in a short period of time.
To me, the most interesting thing you said was that the mark was white. Normally speaking, once you go through the clear coat, you end up with a scratch that's the color of your base coat, your primer or just plain metal. (Unless of course the scratch is just in your clear coat, then it might appear to be white.) Like somebody else said, the first test is if you can feel it with your fingernail. If you can, unfortunately, you're into some paint work. If it makes you feel any better, I had my most prized vehicle keyed about 20 years ago. Man, did it suck.
I have no respect for people who damage other people's property especially vehicles out of jealousy. God reserves a special place in hell for this type of person. They will get what they deserve in the end.
Now, can you feel the scratch with your finger nail? The general rule is if your finger nail catches on it, falling into the scratch, than you're going to need paint to make it right again. Polishing it might help "dull" the scratch or make it a little better. Now if you can't feel it with your finger nail, you're good to go but I doubt it. If you can't, just polish it with some Scratch-X and re-wax. Unless you have better products at your disposal.
I'm pretty sure you're going to have to pay the deductible anyways if you get insurance involved. I'm sure it's going to be a lose-lose situation if you go the insurance route.

getting it redone would probably be 2500 bucks, so hopefully his deductable wont be that high
I guess you've got expensive paint shops around you. Around here it'd be more than half of that.
