to do it right you have to:

pull alot of trim off of doors/fenders = labor
primer
sand the affected area
spray paint (also blending into hood/bumper/roof/bedside)
spray clear
wetsand and buff

he has 3 affected panels, maybe 4 if the back edge of cab was hit

I know what would have to be done, I'm just telling you paint must be high there or really low here.

Thanks for the support guys.

It sucks knowing that there really isn't anything I can do about it. I basically have to bend over and take it in the *** for nothing.

Now my next decision after bending over is should I go through insurance or not. Does anyone have any rough numbers that a premium could go up if I claim this?

(Also thinking about purchasing some sort of small camera that can record for extended periods of time, so for a few months after this problem I can leave it on if the person decides to try it again.)

If you use yoru insurance your not only gonna pay the deductible but your rates are going to go up as well. Either way your paying for it your self. Like I said in another post INSURANCE IS A SCAM!!!!

I claimed a self inflicted scratch and my premiums didnt change at all. I was able to claim it under comprehensive with absolutely nothing out of pocket paid to anyone. Call your agent and ask the worst thing that they are going to tell you in you cant claim it under comp. As far as the camera you could get an IR game camera and mount it to a tree close to you vehicle. Just make sure that the flash is IR so it is not easily detected when the flash goes off. Hope this helps.

It may be dependant on your insurance company and coverage but I would think your insurance should not go up at all for a comprehensive claim. You would have to pay your deductible, of course, if you even have one. I am insured through NC Farm Bureau...nothing special.....and my comp pays 100%. Even with a high deductible I would think you would still come out with less out of pocket by going the insurance route if you are going to have it fixed right. Take it to whomever you would want to fix it and get an estimate. Like DSG said, just call your insurance and ask them about your deductible and whether or not a claim will make your premium go up. If you don't get along with them enough to call them or if they tell you that it will go up, I believe I would look for a new agent.

As for the camera idea....where you going to put it to capture all around the truck? I assume this happened in a parking lot somewhere rather than at your house? And even if it did happen again and you got the suspect on video, it is going to be pretty much useless unless you or the local police are familiar with the subject to identify them. I feel for you. I make a lot of enemies at work and I am always afraid one of them is going to see me out somewhere and see what I drive. Good luck.

Please refer back to my post #8. Comprehensive claims do NOT cause your rates to go up.
