I sooooooo agree with you.
While I understand marketing toward the car fanatics (ie: Speed or similar) or during a televised auto auction (say, the Barrett Jackson for example), it's getting a bit silly and the commercialization of the product is starting to be a little annoying/discouraging.
They make some great stuff but, they aren't the only game in town. While I understand that most of their advertising is geared toward the 'weekend warrior' that buys 100% of their supplies from K-Mart, I'm starting to be turned off as a detailer that utilizes many of their products on my own vehicles as well as client vehicles.

Depending on the client, I either explain the difference to them, or hand them my PC and say "Knock yourself out", and watch them get a bug eyed, oh crap look on their face.
I think a lot of that is due to Meg's heavy marketing of their consumer line.
to a lot of those types .. perception is as important as reality .. and they feel the need to be able to say they are using something exotic on their car at the next show .. instead of saying I use Meg's
I haven't heard it once in all honesty. I really haven't been doing many vehicles *yet* this year...
We could always buy some Turtle Wax concentrate stuff that they use at the wand washes and do their vehicles! That's certainly nothing that they'd easily be able to get their hands on! Maybe even some Blue Coral!
Maybe it would apease them more if you used 'Pro Products'.

Hey -- as long as the quality of the product stays high and I continue to get good results from my Meguiar's combos, it's all good.
Barry may be "Car Crazy", but he's also a businessman, and QVC can move a ton of product in a short period of time!
Let's face it -- most of Barry's TV stuff is pretty cheesy anyways. Mainly just a way for him to bury his nose in the butt-cracks of his business cronies! (Every time he has that guy from Coker Tire on I think Barry's going to get on his knees and deliver felatio!)
But hey -- in order to make this world go around you need your "show horses" and your "quarter horses"......

He'd of probably been better off with his receptionist then.
