RP, I need you (and any other experts)

Hey fellas

My girlfriend has a Nissan Xterra. It has some kind of "xtreme" package that did a few random appearance things inside and out. It has some checkered flag looking decals going up both sides, and theyre starting to flake. A good chunk is missing from both sides, and more flakes off every time she washes it. Problem is, there is some sticker gunk on the paint under where the decals were. What can I use to get all this gunk off? I'm going to remove the rest of the decals using a plastic scraper (if you have a better idea tell me), then Im going to go back and try to remove the gunk. I have a pic of the gunk/flakey decals. Thanks in advance for any advice.

well, i would probably try a clay bar on the sticky stuff....should take it off....maybe

also, to get the logo off i would use a heat gun to heat it up first before you scrape it....it may even peal right off without having to be scraped

I always used WD-40 on the sticky stuff and then it pretty much rubs off. I used to have an Eclipse back in the day and i would take the emblems and decals off and it would leave the same gunk. Goo B Gone also gets it off easier, but i was always too lazy to go pick some up.

Thanks guys. I dont have an actual heat gun, you think a Hair Dryer will produce enough heat?

I've used a hair drier before and it worked good removing the dealer sticker. And I can also vouch for using the WD-40.

The hair dryer will do fine.

3M makes a great adhesive remover that you'll find at just about every 'mart' store in the automotive painting supply section. Be sure to follow with wax or synthetic after removing the stickers as the excessive heat coupled with the adhesive remover *will* remove any surface protection in and around the area of impact.

Also, I don't think that the clay will do much for you in this particular instance -- unless you plan on freezing the stickers first to make them brittle. I.E. I wouldn't try the clay bar as I think you'll 1) waste a perfectly good claybar 2) not be very effective in removal.

Sorry for the delay in getting back in touch with you -- if you guys haven't noticed, I'm not here as often lately. My life is my job right now... couple that in with the fact that I'm going to be a first-time daddy in July and all of the hustle-bustle that goes along with getting ready for that event -- well, I don't have much free time (and my truck's paint is showing it!)
