alrite guys. i have an 06 fx4 screw and ive been muddin a couple of times. i tried washin off my truck, but the mud has stained the some of the tubes and the engine block. what/how would i use to clean underneath my hood? i basically want to make it look brand new. nothing beats a neat lookin underhood truck. i appreciate you guys so much. very helpful forum. rp, your one of the best as well.

ya, i tried simple green, and it worked a little bit, but not that well. i sprayed it on and let it soak in for about 10 min before washing off. is that the right way to do it or is there another way?

 

dilute it, try 4:1 first spray it, let it sit for 30 seconds, rub it a little with a little kitchen sponge/pad then rinse it off. Be carefull around the COPs and sparkplugs, the rest of the electrical should be okay to get a little wet, just dont try to soak them.

also try washing the engine compartment when the engine is not hot. the heat from the motor will cause spotting from the all purpose cleaner.

 

How bout tire dressing? Spray it on let it sit 5-10min wipe everything then respray and poof brand new engine compartment

 

yes thats good.. but dont drive anywhere dusty or its twice as bad as it was before

 

Quit washing your engine, or you're gonna be chasing missfires.

 

Not if you do it right. I've washed alot of engines without one problem.

 

The question you need to ask here is, "Do you feel lucky?" I too had cleaned many engines with no problems, until recently when I had problems with my last two ('99 and '02) F-150's. Both developed mis-fires and required some fairly expensive repairs. My dealer doesn't even allow his detail guys to do anything serious under the hood anymore because they had so many problems. Your choice.

 

I'm with the simple green it worked well for me

 

I too like a clean Engine! But i just spent $360 to have ford chase down my misfires on my other truck my 01 Screw. That was 1 expensive engine detail!

 

Yup, it's the risk you take. If you want to, that's fine... There's nothing on these trucks that can't be fixed....

 

simple green works for me...but like mentioned above...dont over soak your engine when rinsing

 

I usually just use some kind of all purpose cleaner on a towel to wipe everything down and then follow with some hyper dressing to avoid any potential issues with spraying the engine.
